Capitals Sign Vokoun

The Washington Capitals have signed goaltender Tomas Vokoun to a one-year contract worth $1.5-million.

Vokoun, 34, played 57 games for the Florida Panthers in 2010-11, posting a record of 22-28-5 with a 2.55 GAA.

That's a steal for a solid #1 goalie.

Ridiculous. Totally against everything we've seen with the rest of these signings.

Gotta wonder if there's something wrong with him health wise that people caught on to. One of the ten best goalies in the league, IMO, and he goes for exactly what Jose Theodore did, but a year less?

Something's up.

Not even close.

Luongo, Price, Ward, Thomas, Kiprusoff, Lundqvist, Fleury, Rinne, Miller, Howard all say hello.

Bryzgalov, Quick, Lehtonen, Hiller, Brodeur, Backstrom, Halak, are all better as well.

I'd also consider young kids like Scheneider, Rask, Crawford and Neuvirth to be creeping into his talent territory very soon.

No, Maybe, No, No, When Healthy, Not Anymore, Maybe, No

Vokoun had absolutely nothing in front of him in Florida and still was in the top 10 in save percentage, shutouts, and top half in goals allowed.

There's no sense in debating with you if you truly think Vokoun is not only a top 10 goaltender in the NHL, but better than the list above. He's 35 years old, he isn't nearly as good as he used to be.

If you want to use stats as a comparison, James Reimer has essentially the same amount of wins, same save percentage, 3 shutouts in 20 less starts as Vokoun. Is he better right now?

I would take Bryzgalov, Quick, Hiller, Brodeur, Backstrom and Halak over Vokoun, and not even think twice about it.
