Expansion Draft (Hypothetical, OT)

Post#1 » by babyjax13 » Mon Jul 4, 2011 6:40 pm

This is pretty simple, and hopefully it will be a fun discussion during the lockout. If there were to be an expansion draft, what 8 players from your roster would you protect?

The rules:
1. Unrestricted free agents are not available to an expansion team to draft.
2. Unsigned draft picks are not available for the expansion team to draft.
3. Restricted free agents are available.
4. Each team must have at least one player unprotected, so if team x had 8 players under contract and 4 that were UFAs, it could only protect 7 players.
5. The expansion team can only draft one player from each roster and must have at least 14 players.

You should make one for every team and actually draft for the expansion team.

Tyreke
Cousins
Thornton
Jimmer
Salmons
Hickson
Thompson
Honeycutt

I basically agree with your list the only player I would question would be Salmons . The reason being is he is making 8 + million & if the cap gets dramatically lowered then he may be slightly overpaid or we can look at it llike instaed of paying him 8 million if he was drafted who could we pay for 8 million instead ? Or we saved the 8 million & added another 2 , 4 million etc. who could we afford to pay 10 -12 million or so instead as a much bigger upgrade ?

Instead of Salmons I would have to consider saving Whiteside or THOMAS JR . however their is a great argument for keeping Salmons as well .

Evans
Cousins
Thornton
Whiteside
Thompson
Fredette
Hickson
Greene

I'll go ahead and dare an expansion team to take on 3 years and 25million of John Salmons. I don't love Honeycutt being exposed, but Donte has at least shown something in this league.

I don't think he is a Junior. He is not Isiah Thomas' son. Whiteside and Thomas seem risky tho, but if $$ is the concern it makes sense.

Ya I'm pretty sure I heard his parents were big Detroit Pistons fans.

Yah $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Is my reasoning . I know he is not I .Thomase's son .
For me Salmons is good not sure he is worth 8 million yearly or their abouts would rather if saving an 8th player that we didnt have to pay the 8 ,million & would rather pay a guy $750,000 - 2-3 million yearly range no matter if it was Thomas , Whiteside or Green and from their apply the savings from Salmons to a better player / better fit . If not a guy who is a little younger & less injury prone .

If a guy who mkaes far less $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ can be the better player or even only as good but the position that guy is playing is of greater need I would rather have the cheaper salary player than the more expensive guy & apply those savings to another player of need while gaining assetts .

Besides at the end of the day I would think saving only 8 players with the way most teams are over the cap leaving an only slightly better that the above average player at his position would be taken with him making 8 million this year would be selected . I would see him as very little risk of being lost & if that was the case their has to be someone available we would be able to pay the 8 million or less that would be better for us .

Did the Kings already sign him? He said unsigned draft picks can't be exposed so pretty much the Kings would have to expose someone they probably don't want to. If Petrie pulled another Gerald Wallace and left anyone not named Salmons exposed I'd be pissed! I agree, dare 'em! hahaha.

Return to Sacramento Kings
