Michael Beasley

Post#1 » by Jaruff » Wed Jul 6, 2011 8:53 pm

We've discussed Beasley a lot on here in the past but:

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/21 ... Possession

I was reading the Wolves board and it seems that some want him gone (with Williams there). We need a SF and Beasley is far from a bad player. Personally, I figure that Dante Cunningham will appreciate someone that passes the joint.

So, what could we get Beasley for? What would you give up for Beasley knowing he still smokes pot? Discuss.

i think that Beasley could be good value for a trade when the lockout is lifted. However, i think he needs to be on a team of a different profile than the Bobcats to be successful. maybe Silas could get through to him, I dunno.

Are you kidding??

This guy has had one bad encounter too many, and now is caught again as a certified pot head? I SERIOUSLY doubt Cho or MJ want anything to do with this guy. He's a player you're glad is somebody else's problem. Besides, we've got 1 guy on pot rehab now in Dante...let's not make it a club.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

MJ wouldn't look at this guy sideways. Cho would have fits if you mentioned his name.

for me, its not so much that he burns. i mean, from a moral standpoint, i could care less. and so many players have been caught smoking that as a stand alone offense, its really not that big of a deal, especially in the offseason.

that being said, with beasley its a reoccurring theme. i mean, as i player who already has a bad rep and a target, how freaking hard is it to stop blazing for a few years so you can earn millions playing a sport. i think it really just goes to show his lack of dedication, lack of judgement and lack of maturity. and no matter how talented he is, until he becomes more dedicated and motivated he will just be another player with empty stats.

i dont really think beasley is a good fit right now on a young rebuilding team. he needs to be on a team with established hard working vets who will take him under their wing and show him how to be a pro. he would make a fantastic 3rd option for a playoff team.

San Antonio would be an idea spot for him. If they can't teach him professionalism no one can.

Boston wouldn't be bad either, as much as I think that KG is a douche, he is all about winning and puts pressure on his team mates to commit.

Assuming the POR pick won't be anything special, that is probably the most valuable thing I would give up for him. I wouldn't give up any of our "core" players. The most I would give up is maybe Cunningham + White, but I would think the first round pick would be more enticing than those two.

Of course, I'm not advocating we do this, but just answering your question about what I might be willing to give up.

It's really not even a matter of "stop blazing," it's "stop speeding while you're carrying half an ounce." It really does suggest a serious lack of judgment, even if I don't think at the end of the day it's anything serious.

As always, though, we ought to remember that our team leader who everyone was sad to see go ran into the stands to fight fans and has had multiple violent felonies plea bargained down. We'll see what happens as he gets older.

Beasley plus Maggette would create a log-jam at small forward. I would trade Maggette for Beasley though if I were Cho. Is Maggette a more valuable asset to us than Beasley?

Maturity issues: Guy smokes pot, big deal. Sure, the driving over the limit is an issue but let's not forget that J Rich was once clocked going 90 in a 35. Tyreke Evans was arrested for doing 120 on the freeway. Rich people + fast cars = speeding. I've never been one to consider the off-court issues anyway; as long as you don't miss games for doing something stupid (ex: Arenas), do what you want.

I would do:

CHA: Diaw, Cunningham, POR 1st
MIN: Beasley, Miller

Would be open to moving DJ in such a deal if we got a veteran PG in return. Doubt Minny wants to move Luke but a third team could send a veteran over (someone like Andre Miller). Would also move Tyrus instead of DJ but I can't see Minny taking him since they're high on Randolph.

Look at the stat line: 19ppg/5.6rpg/32.3mpg/.450fg%

You give him 38-40 minutes a night and I think he shows you why he was the #2 pick a few years ago. You pair him with Walker and you have a good 1-2 punch. Nice draft position in 2012? Use that to grab another big guy if Tyrus or BB doesn't pan out.

Walker | Henderson | Beasley | Thomas | BB
Vet PG | Carroll | Maggette | White | Miller
Temple | FA SG | McGuire | Najera | Diop

I think Beasley has far fewer personal issues than DeMarcus Cousins and I'd give up an arm and a leg to bring Cousins here on potential alone. If a good deal can be had, I don't see why Cho wouldn't pull the trigger to grab another usable asset.

Who cares about the pot? I'm more concerned with the fact that he's looked worse every year since he came into the league.

this. The Wolves traded a second round pick for him and now, since he's gotten way worse you guys want us to trade a first round pick for him? That would be a Bobcats move anno 2008. We are done with being slaughtered in trade discussions. hopefully.

Being an avid pot smoker I couldn't care less about the fact that he does blaze, but the fact that he drives after smoking (completely dumb) and that he speeds well over the limit (even dumber) goes to show how irresponsible he is

The article doesn't mention that he was high when he was driving, just that he had the pot with him. Doing 84 on an interstate is also very rarely something that gets you pulled over (at least if the highways I drive on regularly are an indication).

It's stupid in the sense that he risked being pulled over by doing something illegal while carrying pot.

I'll be honest, not too worried about that. Throw Beasley and Maggette out there simultaneously and there will be plenty of losing.

I like B-Easy & would willingly trade something of limited value for him,I don't think he will demand much on the open market.

Maybe Diaw/Portland 1st-expiring who can contribute & late pick

for

Beasley/Darko-2 guys they're desperate to get rid of but fill a need for us.

I think they would do this.

The Wolves aren't desperate to get rid of Darko. They are the one team that truly appreciates him. He averaged about 9 pts, 5 rebs, 2 blks in about 24 minutes a game last year. Those are pretty good numbers.
