With he Success of the Hershey Bears I don't understand why this wasn't one of the first things done by Ted. Feels like it would of been a no brainer to actually try to institute a farm team. If the NBA is in a lockout does that include the NBDL next season too? Could the NBA owners still run another league with D Leaguers?

The Cavs are getting their own D-League team.
Looks like #Cavs establishing their own DLeague team in Canton. Formal announcement Thu

The orange uniforms too, the ones Gil wore at the allstar weekend.

That would be a cool option.

I could also see arguments for the Tidewater area(expanding Wizards geographic territory) or Fairfax(proximity to NBA team) in VA.

I think Richmond or southern PA could also be potential locations.

I think PG County would be ideal, but perhaps too-close to the city. OTOH, plenty of folks there who could not afford NBA tix would attend the games. Single affiliation sooner rather than the groveled sharing of a team with another org that doesn't really do development.

Well, those are all great ideas, but I guess we'll be half-following the Iowa Energy for the near term:

The NBA and its Development League announced on Thursday that the Wizards will now be affiliated with the Iowa Energy, nearly a week after the Golden State Warriors purchased the Dakota Wizards. The Chicago Bulls and New Orleans Hornets will also be connected with the Energy.

The Wizards had been affiliated with Dakota since the 2006-07 season. NBA teams are able to sent first- and second-year players to the D-League, which is considered the NBA’s minor league. The Wizards twice sent rookie center Hamady Ndiaye down for extra work last season.

The change isn’t surprising, since Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld intimated that they would be matched with up Iowa after the Warriors purchased Dakota. In the past two seasons, the Wizards have finished the season with players called-up from Iowa — Cartier Martin and Othyus Jeffers. D-League teams will compete next season, no matter what transpires with the NBA lockout, which went into effect last week.

Ted may want to buy a D-League team, but it may not be great timing for him to do so, what with him crying poverty and all during the lockout negotiations.
Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.

Thanks for the update Keynote. Usually two NBA teams share a D-League affiliate, now three teams will share the Iowa Energy (not ideal). The funny thing is that there will be an NBDL season going-on during the lock-out.

Could the Wizards have found a star on their D-League affiliate? Well, Bleacher Report says they might have. Curtis Stinson, 2011 D-League MVP.

Here's some video of Stinson last year.

Has anybody seen Stinson play. Can he become an NBA player.
