DMB, you call, I respond...good to see you hear....any new street reports on our guys?
I just posted about Zaza picking up a part-time gig waiting for all 30 owners to come up with a profitable margin....ugh.....gives him time to potentially play with DWill if all the facts are correct.
We need to get out of MC's shadow and keep the lines open!

"Mark , (Bradley) - AJC Sports Editor -
'You nailed it. That about sums everything up. Funny thing is, the NBA can’t afford this lockout. Marketing already sucks what with the Celtics being old, the Lakers being jaded with their own selves, LeBron finding out what it’s like to go from “most loved” to “most hated”, and…well crap…Kevin Durant isn’t quite as gabby and vibrant as the camera would like him to be.
The NBA’s best hope? Blake Griffin. Why? Because “Kevin Love in the shower” is the all-time worst NBA commercial. Nothing against Love. But marketable he ain’t."

"Meanwhile Blake Griffin is thinking, “WTF! I miss my actual rookie season, then get to play my second year and have a blast, now I get to miss another season. And I’m not even injured!”
Clippers curse will strike again…Blake gets injured during the lockout and misses the following season…no, really I hope it doesn’t happen. But if it does, then pitchforks and torches all the way to Stern’s office while the dapper Adam Silver slides out the back door."

Not much to report on with no sale of the team, no free agency, no first round pick.
And AJC closes those NBA blogs because they take up so much space on comments not really relevant to the topic. Also, some of the comoments get a little rude and MC doesn't monitor the comment sections.

DMB,
You gonna make a whole bunch of dedicated Hawks fans over here. Wait til they get a taste of how DMB spins the Sund/Larry chronicles. 2 guys who probably don't get any attention away from the court, and try to make us believe they know how to create a contender.
The time is here fellas; don't let the lockout become your excuse for not having the ability to have a championship plan in place. You guys are still getting paid.....let's work towards building something here instead of scrounging around in the FA dumpster looking for parts.

And if David Stern thinks all 30 owners are going to be profitable after this session, there will be no more free agency....doesn't matter, Sund doesn't know how to use that option anyway. Now he's down to only 2 options...trades and the draft.....and we have too long a history on his drafting.

I am not suprised players are going over seas to make money. The one thing i will say is did Billy Hunter and Derek Fisher anticipate this to happen?

Re: AJC: MC Beat Blog Dissenters - Follow Hawks & DRMARYB He
excellent post by a realgm user in regards to the lockout. I totally agree with:
The Blazers giving Oden 1 more chance is the right move to me. He is a top 5 center when hes on the court, had the 2nd highest PER after Dwight in 09, and is still only 23 years old. Id give him another year, and so would probably every team. I dont see how that is a bad business decision. Is it a slight gamble? Sure, but the potential reward is still enormous. Its not like they gave him a multi year deal.
As far as Dolan, hes not losing money with the Knicks no matter what he does. We've had the worst record for the past 10 years but have been the 1st or 2nd most profitable franchise, and top 5 in attendance with high ticket prices. The big market teams are not the ones who are suffering, its the small market ones who are forced to overpay to get players to come to their team or keep them.
The only way a small market can win is by getting very lucky in the draft. Its that simple. But then 3/4 of those players go on to a big market later anyway, not that Im complaining
. This is why small markets have to overpay, and that just leads to a cycle of overpaying everywhere, because why should Joe Johnson make more?
Its impossible to control the market and stay competitive. There is always somebody who will overpay a little bit, and its mostly the big markets. Its not like every time a team overpays its a bad thing either, it just depends on the situation.
Lets look at Rudy Gay. What was Memphis supposed to do? Just let him go? Okay. They had a decent run w/o Rudy this year, but they were 30-24 w/ him and will never be championship material w/o a scoring wing. Mike Conley, Tony Allen, OJ Mayo, ZBo, and Marc Gasol isnt winning a championship. So who could they get better than Rudy Gay? Who is going to Memphis? If you said NOBODY youd be correct. They had to overpay to keep Rudy, or else theyd just have to rebuild all over again because the team they have without Rudy is going nowhere fast. Unless you believe Xavier Henry is the next big thing or OJ Mayo is going to stop being a raging overhyped disappointing douche.
Where Memphis f*cked up was the Thabeet pick, not paying Rudy Gay. But that just shows the draft is a crap shoot and not something to rely on. Rudy was the 8th pick in a crappy draft. He was a steal. You win some you lose some in the draft, but at some point a team has to start trying to win. Thats what Memphis did. They have a solid team on paper, but just need a little more seasoning. If Rudy can take his game up a notch (he had his best season this year) then the Grizz can be pretty good. If they let him go then theyd probably have to blow up their whole team and start over again, praying to get the next Derrick Rose or Kevin Durant, because they cant sign anyone else.
The problem contracts like Rudy create is they set the market for other teams to have to overpay their players to stay good themselves. Its not as simple as just "making smart decisions." Sometimes a team has to overpay or else theyd face yet another rebuild, just hoping to strike gold in the draft and waste another 3+ years sucking. What are the chances Memphis finds a better player than Rudy in the draft? Very slim. The Grizz are different than a team like the Hawks, since the Hawks have pretty much ran its course. The Grizz have more players with upside, so they're taking a shot.
My point? The system needs to change. I dont think its "saving the owners from themselves" as much as permitting the owners a better way to stay competitive without severely overpaying players. Something's gotta be done here to me.

Phenomenal comments and a plethora of Good Stuff! IDK what's gonna happen with Oden tjough. The main thing ois for him to rehab well and not come back too soon. The rehab is the critical key to successful micro-fracture surgery.
Amare, Blake, et.al. Have done unbelievably well, Jamal Mashburn and Brandon Roy - not so much.
Can't really blame Portland for the 8.8M qualifying offer made to Oden. It is really too soon to give up on him just yet.
I heard someone say we should play Kito at SF? What do you think Briggs?

"The NBA lockout is only an essential lockout if you believe everything David Stern says. And as any Seattle Supersonics fan can tell you, that is not a smart idea. The NBA’s real problem is that they don’t have revenue sharing. Teams in big markets with sweet television deals like the Lakers and Knicks are rolling in money, teams in small markets with sh-tty television deals like the Bobcats are losing money big time, and there’s no system in place for the Lakers and Knicks to share money with the Bobcats in an equitable manner.
Of course, it’s a lot easier for the owners to point the finger at the guys driving the big ass trucks instead of solving their own problems internally."
______________________________________
If Stern wants to create some financial parity amongst the NBA teams, this might work. I believe this is what is happening in the NFL. It seems to work there. But at the end of the day each team has to be fiscally responsible in negotiating their player contracts and local marketing.

drmaryb,
Kito would be interesting. I am sure you saw that Lighty signed with a club in Europe. I think this lockout is going to take a long time probably like the one in '98.
drmaryb,
I want to ask you if you feel Dominique was an underrated player?Unfortunately for Dominique and even Bernard King to a lesser extent the fact without even winning or getting to the eastern conference finals hurts his legacy. I am sure you remember in Jordan early years was compared to Dominique because their careers were similar early on high scorers but it separated once Jordan got Pippen to develop and Grant and the role players. What are your thought on Nique's career?
Also another thing I wanted to say in regards to the lockout
The NBA owners don't have any leverage in this day and age and it's not like when Dominque Wilkins went to play in Greece averaging 45 ppg....our economy sucks and guys can make much more overseas and the endorsements from 5-6 continents is a lot more than the US, which is why Soccer Stars are now the highest paid athletes worldwide. I said it before, Stern should take a shallacking for the collapse of the NBA because that's where it's headed under his watch. I wouldn't mind a IBL (International Baskeball League) if it's on Cable or DirectTV....eff the NBA and their owners...they are greedy and always want a bigger share like if they are the SuperStars...they aren't, if you love B-Ball the way I do, you can multiple places in US right now i..to watch guys who play for the love and not the dollar. Kids from HS are going overseas, so the eligibility rule has backfired 100% and it hasn't made the college game any better realistically. What he should've concentrated on was making the D-League more sound in development because it's not even like a Triple/Double A type league like MLB. Even NFL Europe does a good job of getting some guys over here and look how many Arena League QBs like Kurt Warner have excelled. Stern should be voted out as new innovative blood is needed to take the league in a positive direction. Giving Refs more power in a league where games were fixed and always borders on cheating, that just doesn't make an ounce of sense especially when there is no basis or facts to support such a power trip
it's almost like MLB except the NBA cap doesn't allow teams like they do in baseball to be able to take these financial hits and recover. It's why in MLB, it's so much easier to fix an issue because of not having a cap and as much as they don't have one and people complain about the NYY payroll, guess what? There have been over 10 different teams to win the Championship in MLB the last 20 years and there is only about 6 teams in the NBA that have won in the last 25 years...that's a huge difference and why it becomes more like a staged outcome than a fair sport. I think there needs to be a performance clause where if a guy can't play, then can shed him but different than the Allan Houston rule. Problem is, it will be hard to decipher if a guy can't play due to injury or like what we've seen with coaches just being in the doghouse. Teams need better/faster recovery financially in these instances and I'm all for that.

Michael Jordan ran the Atlanta Hawks front office? MJ signed a past his prime aging Moses Malone?
MJ broke Bird's back? and at the same time thwarted Dominique w/o ever facing him in the playoffs? my my my
Denial is a beeyotch smh, Hawks lost because the management and assessment of their assets was inadequate.
