Real Madrid tells AK the mid-level is too much

Post#1 » by Fido » Fri Jul 8, 2011 7:53 pm

Per wiretap they told AK $5.8 mill to play for them this year was too much. Is that amount extraordinarily high in the Spanish League? And where does this relate to how much AK is looking for in his next NBA contract? He isn't going to be getting much more than this I imagine the way things are going to shake out.

PS: Yes, 2 new topics from me in the same day. I'm getting bored with the lockout already.

I don't think it's too much for AK, though I'd low ball him a bit based on the fact he's totally set off of Jazz money. 4.5 per year for 2 years would be great. CJ money for AK, he stays in his home, his kids go to the same schools, his wife keeps her same friends.

Maybe some of the posters in Europe can shed some light on the subject of salaries in the Spanish League but generic articles or stories I can find say generally they are much less than in the NBA.

Yeah, that is a considerable amount of money in the Spanish League, especially if you consider that most European teams also provide star players with a house, a car, and pay their agent fee's etc.

For example, according to Wiki, Josh Childress signed a 3 year 20 million dollar deal with Olympiacos. However, with a lack of taxes to pay, and not having ot pay for a house or car fees, the contract was equal to a $15 million contract in the US. Basically, each dollar given in Europe is worth 2 in the US, (this has nothing to do with a Euro conversion either.)

If the same rules apply with AK, a $5.8 million would equate to around $12 million in the US.

No way is AK worth $12 million in the NBA.

I think the numbers reported are already adjusted for currency rates and are being quoted in the US equivalent....but not 100% sure on this.

Regardless, AK is not worth $7mm/year in the NBA anymore. He's too inconsistent and too injury-prone. I'd say the mid-level money has his name written all over it....but we'll have to see how the new union agreement plays out.

I think it's a fair asking price. Ya it's a little on the high side but he isn't a scrub.

You guys forget how much he changes the game with his unique talent set and physical abilities...I can't imagine how much more dominant he will be in the Euro league compared to the NBA...you guys also forget he was the MVP of the Russian team not long ago? He is a legit player who deserves to get paid. There is a bad image painted on him because of the last few seasons here but he is still a great player.

He'd be amazing in the European game. Remember when he took Russia to the championship in Eurobasket a few years back and was MVP, he was insane in that tourney.

It would certainly fit his style. But Euro game is becoming more like NBA game. I'd really like a unified FIBA rule set. I like the NBA rules, with FIBA goal tending. A smaller lane is ok, and a NBA 3 is best.

The only thing that should be variable is the 3. The lane should be a constant dimension.

In my humble opinion, for the Jazz, Kirilenko does not worth more than 5M for 2 years.

AK is worth 10mil a year for 25 games and 1.5 mil a year for the other 57 games.

Kinda hard to decide what is fair with him. One thing you do know is that you can't rely on him.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

I heard about a week or two ago on the radio of a player, I think was Ginoble but not sure, was offered something like 29 million for 4 years and if he accepted would have been the highest paid player in the Spanish league.
