Re: Will too much muscle mess up your skills?
Just look at Joey Graham and Corey Maggette. Their skill levels (No matter how good or bad they were) dropped when they added a bunch of muscle.
It'd difficult to find that perfect medium. That's why so much money goes into doctors and trainers by teams and the actual players themselves.

Anthony Mason was pretty well muscled and he used to play Point Forward. I think it all just depends on the player themselves

No he didn't want to fight in ascended ssj form because it was too weak to beat Perfect Cell with. Thats why he went past ascended and ultra ssj and became a full power ssj. The form balances power and speed not his own training. GOD
Umm, no. Full power SSJ is what Goku and Gohan first achieved in the HBTC. Before that, being in SSJ drained so much energy from them that they couldn't sustain it for long periods of time, especially when weakened (like when Goku had his heart disease, he couldn't hold SSJ against Android 19.) so Goku developed it so they could train (and get greater results) in SSJ without having such a huge drain on the body and it's ki. USSJ (what Trunks tried to fight Cell in) is a more powerful than full-power SSJ, but due to the added bulk, Trunks suffers a big hit to his speed, so even though he was technically stronger than Cell, he wasn't able to land a hit on the faster opponent. Both Vegeta and Goku immediately recognized this fault in the form when they achieved it, which is why Vegeta didn't even bother going into it during his fight with Cell earlier.
C'mon son.
Actually it's not more powerful than Full-Power Super Saiyan. When Goku came out the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, he demonstrated 50% of the power of his Full-Power Super Saiyan form. When he did that everyone was blown away by how powerful he was. Trunks himself said that was the most power that he ever experienced ever in his life. FPSSJ is not only a faster form, but it's also much stronger than the bulky form that Trunks used against Cell. Even 50% of FPSSJ Goku is much stronger than Trunks' USSJ form.

maggette was jacked before he even started lifting weights.
too much upper body mass can mess with a player's shot, but not much of anything else.
i think players should follow the current trend and utilize boxing training. it's a great way to improve core and overall strength, while improving footwork, agility, hand eye coordination without adding unnecessary upper body mass.
also, i think the OP sits at home and thinks of the many ways to make excuses for lebron in a roundabout way.

Re: Will too much muscle mess up your skills?
It really depends on your skill set. The misconseption most people have in regards to muscle is that 1% increased muscle mass leads to a 1% increase is speed, power, explosiveness etc... It varies depending on your current muscle mass, genetics, etc... and a myriad of other factors. Its really something each player needs to experiment with themselves.

Re: Will too much muscle mess up your skills?
It's not the actual bulking up that can mess with a players "skills", which I don't buy into, but that bulking up by means of weight room promotes muscle growth from different areas of your body. Some guys will concentrate more on certain muscles and it can mess up the rhythm and harmony of your body, which I like to refer as "fluidity". Joey Graham is a weight room warrior but has the worst fluidity in an athlete I've ever seen. His whole body doesn't seem very in sync. Same as Corey Maggette. Their coordination are in shambles. Their bodies are more suited for body building, not basketball.
Think it's why people recommend athletes to do boxing or martial arts as a side hobby; it boosts whole body growth and gets you really in sync with yourself.

IMO it is very simple - every hour in weight room is the hour less on the court.

Well Boozer is quite big and skilled, but idd there's some true in it, whenever you see a really ripped guy he is usually low-skilled :S Maybe idd it's easier for slim players to get superb balance and coordination and it requires more practice with bigger muscle mass or just bigger mass. Guy that to me slowed down and lost some of his agility is Ron Artest he got Howarded.

Re: Will too much muscle mess up your skills?
Derrick Rose looks pretty skilled to me, and has every offensive dribbling move and fluid motion in the book. Not sure if I buy this thread.. Footwork has more to do with practice, and less to do with muscle mass.

That's actually just because of how much stronger Goku was than Trunks, not that FPSSJ was stronger than USSJ. Overall, with speed, power, and sustainability all factored in, Full Power SSJ obviously blows USSJ out of the water, but by just a pure power standpoint, USSJ is stronger.
Goku and Gohan greatly surpassed Imperfect Cell, and if they would have fought before Vegeta let him absorb Android 18 they would have destroyed him easily. Trunks and Vegeta needed to enter the chamber a second time to close the gap between them and Goku (Gohan was on another level at this point having already achieved SSJ2 in the HBTC).

I don't know think Melo's necessarily a more skilled player than LeBron. Their skills are just different. Melo is more suited to play in a halfcourt set. He's more skilled on the post and in triple threat situations. He's a better shooter. But on the flip side, LeBron is a much better ballhandler. He's a much better passer and a much better playmaker. He's also a superior defender, both on-the-ball and off. But if the question is: "Is Melo more skilled at his position than LeBron?" Then, the answer would be yes because even though LeBron plays SF, he's really more of a PG/SG in the traditional sense.
