OT: Second All-Star Game (USA vs World)... what you think?

Post#1 » by WCDYNASTY » Mon Jul 11, 2011 9:29 pm

I think the NBA should have a second annual All-Star game to be played before the season starts, Team USA versus Team World, in which American All-Stars will play a team of International All-Stars. The original All-Star game in the middle of the season would stay as is. I think this would be great for the NBA especially since they are always trying to expand the NBA brand beyond the United States… what do you guys think of this? I think this would be a GREAT way to kick-off the NBA season. If I’m not mistaken this All-Star game format was or is still done with the NHL, sorry not big hockey fan so not 100% sure.

TEAM WORLD
Pau Gasol - C (Spain)
Dirk Nowitzki - PF (Germany)
Luol Deng - SF (Sudan)
Manu Ginobili - SG (Argentina)
Steve Nash - PG (South Africa/Canada)

Andrew Bogut - C (Australia)
Luis Scola - PF (Argentina)
Andrei Kirilenko - SF (Russia)
Ben Gordon - SG (England)
Tony Parker - PG (France)

Nene - C (Brazil)
Andrea Bargnani - PF (Italy)
Leandro Barbosa - PG (Brazil)

<<<<< VERSUS >>>>>

TEAM USA
Dwight Howard - C
Amare Stoudemire - PF
LeBron James - SF
Kobe Bryant - SG
Derrick Rose - PG

Andrew Bynum - C
Blake Griffin - PF
Kevin Durant - SF
Dwayne Wade - SG
Chris Paul - PG

Carmelo Anthony - SF
Deron Williams - PG
Lamar Odom - PF

I'd rather it be that than East vs. West.

I'd pick Ibaka on the worlds for a bench role over Bargs and Moody Fernandez over Barbosa and ofcourse you missed Marc Gasol.

The only negative I see from this is the risk of your star players getting injured from all the flashy plays (since it's an All Star game, it's expected to have that) before the season starts.
But hey, they should know that. And if only for a day why not? FIBA or other tournaments are riskier than this.
