Angels call up Mike Trout

Post#1 » by dockingsched » Fri Jul 8, 2011 7:49 am

In the manager's office after Thursday's game, Angels manager Mike Scioscia and GM Tony Reagins discussed their options for nearly 30 minutes after center fielder Peter Bourjos injured his hamstring in the eighth inning.

The result of those deliberations — top prospect Mike Trout will be promoted from Double-A Arkansas in time for Friday’s game against the Mariners.

rated top 2 prospect by many media outlets, this comes out of left field.

When I was 19, I worked four jobs and ran an orphanage in my spare time. If this little snot can't even get a single hit in his first game, the Angels ought to trade him while he still has the faintest bit of value. Preferably to Toronto...I'd do Jo-Jo Reyes and Rajai Davis for him, but only for now. Another 0 for 3 game and it's off the table.

The Brewers will give Carlos Gomez for him. He's super good at D-FENZ!

We'll also throw in Frank Francisco.

I would rather have Harper. Trout is a little safer, but he doesn't have Bryce's upside.

Harper is going to be more the long ball threat, besides that both guys can do it all.

Neither of these two are anywhere near ready to be playing in the major leagues. From what i've seen Trout is a good year away from sticking and Harper probably should be looked at for the 2013 season.

I think pitching is too good these days for young kids to be coming up and doing well basically right out of highschool. Someone like a Dustin Ackley can go right through the minors and do it but he basically played 3 years in lower minor league ball while at UNC.

I wouldn't say Ackley went right through the minors, he still needed almost 1000 PA's. That's a healthy amount for a polished college bat. For example, Gordon Beckham only had 250 PA's.

Guys like Heyward, Castro and Justin Upton had around the same amount of plate appearances as Ackley and they came in as 17 year olds.

Around 900 plate appearances to be exact for Ackley and basically it was one full season and 3 months in the minors so my point about him getting through the minors pretty quick i think is accurate.

The issue here is Harper and Trout and neither look anything close to being ready.
