Nnamdi Asomugha: 19 million per year?

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Thu Jul 7, 2011 1:44 am

Nnamdi Asomugha could command a contract in free agency that approaches $19 million a year. http://chat.nfl.com/front/index/1586

That is ridiculous. Dont get me wrong Asomugha is a great player, but $19 million for a defensive back is absurd. I want the Ravens to somehow obtain him but not with that enormous contract demand.

He is good, that is too much for a CB. I mean you can get guys that are a smidge worse, for a whole lot less, not a smart investment.

I’ve been saying for a while that the Eagles seem like the frontrunner given that they are a contender, and have a major hole at CB, but at that price, this signing just SCREAMS Dan Snyder.

Having an elite DB has been the catalyst for several teams success over the last decade, it really isn't surprising that when one of the best goes on the market there will be a crazy bidding war. Asomugha is a guy who basically takes away half of the passing field for other teams offenses. He is worth the money IMO.

Exactly. If you have Aso covering the entire half of the field, your defense will be allowed to do much more like blitzing and disguise coverages. Aso will make any defense dramatically better

That takes Dallas and Detroit out of the mix. Houston, hello!

I agree.

Houston seems like the likely destination. I hope it doesn't happen, but I expect it to become a reality.

I would bet he ends up in Tampa. They have way too much cap that they have to spend in order to reach the cap floor, and they need a CB, so they will throw out an absurd contract that Nnamdi can't refuse.

Tampa is better off improving as a whole instead of spending so much on Nnamdi Asomugha.

Isn't that more than Payton Manning makes?

It's Peyton with an "e" and ya Manning makes the big bucks because he's the best and deserves it. 19 mill for a CB? Fair to say somebody is off there rocker.

Teams are interested, but if Asomugha returns to Oakland, Al Davis is going to look like an idiot in the eyes of many. It won't matter if two or three teams offered Asomugha the same amount.

I still think Philly makes the most sense for him but with the new wiretap rumor looks like Philly might be out of the Asomugha running. Seems like the Texans are the most likely spot right now imho.

Yeah 19 million is overpaying, but I think fair value for him is around 14 or 15 million a year. I think hes the best defensive player in football, and one of the best cornerbacks of all time. I would rather overpay a guy like him by 5 million, that pay some average guy worth 3 million 8 a year. And I think with the 108 minimum salary floor we are going to see a lot of average players getting severly overpaid. Its better to overpay for an elite player who might be the difference between making and missing the playoffs, or maybe the difference between making the playoffs and making the superbowl.

I like Ndamdi but I'd lke to see him line up on #1 wrs' more often. 19 mil. Is steep, but if he can get it, then good for him.

I have to laugh at the entire he wants to be in New York because he wants to act angle that's being talked about right now. Either way without Snyder in the bidding I have to feel that he will come up short on this number.

I'm praying the Ravens can pull this off. You give them Nnamdi and I believe they can win it all this year. I must admit though, the thought of Revis and Nnamdi together is pretty awesome.
