The mere fact that it sounds like we dumped the roughly $2.25m in prorated salary he`s owed is a bit of a miracle.

Yup. The only reason we even got him in the first place was because the Angels didn't want to pay him $5M.

If LA is eating up the rest of his salary (which I doubt but who knows), then giving him 275 plate appearances may have been worth it. That is $2M they could allocate elsewhere, and another $2M they can shave off the already monstrous savings from the Wells deal.

Wait, what in the world do the Dodgers want with Juan Rivera?

As always, Ned Coletti is busy building a team that would have been good five years ago. I can't imagine a deal that serves less purpose; they're 13 games out of the playoffs.

And they probably could have simply waited another day and saved $2m...I doubt anyone was rushing in to collect Rivera on waivers, and he almost certainly would have declined his demotion and become a free agent.

Weird how the Dodgers are ADDING salary when McCourt is in the process of declaring bankruptcy.

It's now being stated that the Dodgers received cash in the deal (probably covering the remainder of Rivera's salary), so we'll be getting a player back. Probably means that we traded nothing for nothing, but this is where Coletti can be a bit fun.

Well if we do get a minor league player back and he can tie his laces without assistance, it will be a plus.

Forget the salary aspect of it, I just want to know how Juan Rivera helps the Dodgers become a better baseball team in any possible way.

The Dodgers could use an outfielder/bench bat who hits left-handed pitching. Kinda...they could have used an outfielder who hits left-handed pitching two months ago. Now it's entirely pointless.

Yeah, even if the prospect coming back is a spoon with a face drawn on it, we're breaking even at worst here.

Matt Kemp  Seriously I bet it's just a salary dump I would laugh my ass off if AA gets Ethan Martin or Aaron Miller or Alan Webster.

I just don't see how Rivera helps the Dodgers at all unless they see something in him

A barefoot minor league player would still be a plus.

Thames was sent back to AAA as a result.

??

EDIT: HAha...so much for my comprehension skills :) That's MARCUS, not ERIC, being designated

I had my doubts that the Dodgers would pick up the contract. With their financial problems no way they would just grab a **** player like Rivera and pay him millions. With that said, I expect a Jo Jo Reyes type player coming back, at best. Still better than Rivera.

Well there were clearly no takers, and LA I would assume was willing to part with something to make it worth it for AA not to just dump Rivera flat out. Perhaps even the Dodgers are dumping salary and sending us Matt Kemp.
