Can't see any reason for Denver to do this at all.

Re: decent return for JC1
I can see DEN being intrigued. Their frustration with JR has been @ Smoove levels considering his skills and game in, game out production levels. The problem is that at least Smoove will generally bring something to the game even if there are parts that are off, JR doesn't necessarily do that and that's why he has always been a backup for DEN even though they were starting the likes of Dahntay Jones. JC1 would fill the same role for DEN as JR does - except that DEN can feel secure that the role would be filled every night instead of the times that JR actually feels like showing up.azuresou1 wrote:Can't see any reason for Denver to do this at all.
Why would we do it is the ?. There's an upside to JR that JC1 no longer possesses, but are we ready to gamble on upside in our current situation? Can we gamble on JR's head being if JJ is our supposed locker room leader? I guess we could, but I seriously doubt that any rationale GM would.
I know there's a general feeling around here that we should stick our heads in the sand and make a few daring moves that could take us to the next level. The problem is that more times than not, those daring moves drag you down instead of lifting you up - go ask ORL how bringing in Arenas and Hedo went for them. I do agree that we should investigate moves, but I can't see any move in which we put more emphasis on upside than on current production.

Re: decent return for JC1
why would the hawks do this? does anyone think JR is really a better player? might as well just sign jamal and keep him than this route.
plus if JR couldnt keep his **** together on a team with a respected coach, a superstar Melo, and a vet leader like billups. good luck having him do **** on a team with larry drew, josh smith, and joe johnson.

I think JR Smith is better than Jamal, but not for the Hawks... he needs an actual leader like a Tim Duncan or a Jason Kidd.

Agreed. JR is a hothead and with our laid back leadership it wouldn't mesh well, especially with another know hothead on the team.

Seems like a lateral move to me to be honest. I dont see much of a difference between Smith and Crawford and Smith is more of a hothead

more upside, better defense and a way to get something for Jamaal. Also JR can cover SG-SF while JC1 can cover the SG-PG (not really a point but rather a shooting PG). is that really needed after what we have seen from JT + Hinrich. I would say no. We actually need to move JC1 ...or to let him walk. I am just getting a shot at option 1.
JC1 would ask more than 6-7 M to stay in ATL after what we have thrown at JJ.
If you do not like this trade then involve TOR
JC1 to DEN
JR to TOR
Barbosa to ATL

I still think of the JR one as the higher risk-higher rewards one though...especially if we move Marvin

As If They Could!
As if the Hawks could S&T Jamal for anyone at all is preposterous thinking!
Jamal is an UFA and can sign anywhere he chooses. Why would he choose Denver and what's in it for him to do a S&T anyways?
The Hawks have forfeited any rights to milk Jamal's nipple when Sund refused to even discuss an extension for the FA deadline came and went. (Pfffft!)

Re: decent return for JC1
Couple of thoughts:
1) I'm guessing that the new CBA makes double sign and trades commonplace.
2) If the Hawks actually had 7 mil of taxfree money to spend then they'd just keep Jamal. He's a known quantity that has shown he can play with the current group, if a team like the Hawks is sinking 7 mil into a player then you best believe they will go the safe route rather than gamble.

Besides money, contracts, etc, I would try to focus in their characteristics.
Jamaal can be a "de facto" point guard, although not very creative. That means he can share the court with JJ, but not a game scheme.
Smith could not share the court with JJ, unless one of them is playing really out os his natural position.
JJ should play the 3 or the 1 to allow Smith to play the 2 or Smith should defend a 3 in order to share playing time woth JJ.
I am not saying that JC is a better player, but I believe he is more of a complete
player that can create, handle and shoot (passing not included
)and Smith can just run, shoot and penetrate, but does not enter the game creation that much.

Do you really think that Jamaal ceated during the PO...or more or less dissapeared? Do you think that his offense helped us more than his defense hurted us? Food for thoughts.

Imust admit than i am a gambler but JR is also almost 6 years younger and can offer much more than JC1 over the years to come...
