At least now we know we won't make any stupid decisions with our cap space like the Pistons. Good move!

If Larry Bird isn't going to finish the job, KP is a great alternate. Great hire!

Re: WE GOT PRITCHARD
gotta say, I don't know why we need him. the basketball side seems to be in good hands and doesn't need another chief. the business side on the other hand doesn't seem to have a clear sense of direction. I could see bringing in a task master to whip sales and marketing into shape but I don't see that Pritchard is that person.

^^Yo, read the rules about sigs. They have to be under a certain size.
I think this is a smart idea. Overall, Pritchard put together a team in less than favorable conditions and even though two of their top guys are injured, they made the playoffs in the Western Conference.

You're right, he did. That said, it was at the direction of Paul Allen. As Rich Cho can attest, and KP for that matter, if you don't do what Paul tells you to, you're gone in short order. I think this is an awesome hire.

Re: WE GOT PRITCHARD
Are we loading up on Indiana locals? Kidding.
This one's solid. I mean, He and Larry knows each other pretty well and i think Pritchard would be a very capable GM, after Larry's term is over.
Anyway i found this on hoopshype:
Well i guess it's just a way to start things off, Larry and David are still on board. Nonetheless, the hiring is a big help.
I don't really think we can blame Pritchard for signing Brandon Roy to a max contract. It's not a one-man decision and i'm pretty sure the owner approved it before the deal was made.

Mike Wells: Pritchard's contract is for 1 year and he's being brought in to help scout and in free agency since the Pacers will be under the salary cap. Twitter

I like the move. Pritchard assembled a lot of talent while he was in Portland, and at the very least, it's another voice Bird and Morway can bounce ideas off.

Re: WE GOT PRITCHARD
great, great hire.
here are some thoughts
from GM David Morway:
http://www.nba.com/pacers/video/2011/07 ... pg-1757110
i think, though, that
Pritchard will be
more actively involved
than what his title
suggests.
on a related note, i think
all our activity thus far will
make playing for us attractive
to FAs: solid front office,
coaching staff, on-the-rise roster.
when the lockout ends,
we'll be as ready as any
team out there, if not more.

You want to post here, you follow the rules. There's lots of other forums you can post on that allow you to put up your sig that only said "GOR" on it because it was too big for the display area.

Re: WE GOT PRITCHARD
Larry and David have had problems completing a couple transactions in the past, so i see know problem adding a respected voice throughout the league. Maybe Kevin is the type of closer we need in certain situations when negotioations stall.
They have got a lot of decisions to make, and three heads are better than one.

Normally in the egocentric world of pro sports management, I'd be hesitant to agree with you, going more along the lines of "too many cooks in the kitchen." However, considering this appears to be a transitional move (the 1-year deal is a little surprising) and Larry seems really tight with both Morway and KP, I think we'll be fine and I agree.

I agree. I think it'll be fine since everyone knows their place. Pritchard reports to Morway and Bird gets final word on everything.

If the Pacers were looking for a closer, KP was not the guy. He has very little understanding of the CBA or negotiation. It showed after the Roy/Aldridge draft and is the reason I do not think he should ever be given the title of GM again.
His supposed strength is scouting and that can be debated.

Re: WE GOT PRITCHARD
^^^ What can't be discounted is the fact he turned the infamous ' Jailblazers into a promising team. If the chips had fallen a little differently for him, in regards to key-injuries, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
I was always impressed with all the talent that flowed through Portland. I remember a couple seasons ago whe Brandon was considered the best two-guard behind Kobe. The Greg Oden fiasco could've happened to almost any team, because at the time, Oden was the favorite.
Regardless, we know it's not a talent issue with his draft selections.
All that I am saying is that maybe he can convey our message a little more effectively in certain situations. We don't need him to crunch numbers, that's Morways job.
