I had a weird lunch conversation with an older gentleman from the US today. I first met him about a month ago and he was on cloud nine living it up in Vietnam.

Out of the blue he tells me he broke up with his girl and is now looking for a nice Vietnamese lady. Mind you all the girls I know are like half his age; I didn't feel right just yet to tell him his better off getting his nob stroked at the nearest spa for now. But hey, maybe some dumb Vietnamese chick will think he's some sort of sugar daddy.

Then he tells me he's now feeling some pressure from his company to make a sale. He's in real estate in a foreign country and he does not speak the local language. I end up giving him advance to explore other options and concentrate on foreign clients who want to invest in Vietnam but have no clue how. It was good to see his brain getting going with that idea.

This lunch started to become a real let down with his sad pity over himself. No girl. Maybe no job. No leads. No inspiration.

Maybe next time, I'll skip the lunch and we'll go get massages and tell one of the girls to just give him the full treatment. I'm sure thats what all Americans dream of when they come here anyway.

Not like he set himself up for a success anyway right from the beginning. I hear these kind of stories a lot in Dubai. The people come in expecting to see a whole different world, live it up for the honeymoon period, spend recklessly and once they get into debt, its like running up a flight of stairs covered with oil and candle wax.

Going under is punishable by imprisonment in the Emirates.
