He did not do it alone and was not the GM for the Roy/Aldridge draft. He also had the luxury of Paul Allen's wallet and burned thru alot of money with nothing to show for it. My judge of a GM is how well he uses his resources and KP certainly did not turn water into wine.

Part of his problem in Portland was that he loved the players he drafted. A couple of years ago, Portland had an abundance of young talent. Fans wanted to see some consolidation trades. Those trades never happened. He also loved to draft European players and leave them overseas. The thing about KP that was great for the fans was that he was always willing to talk wtih the media and he talked a lot which we loved. There was something shady with the whole Tom Penn firing which had KP's name mentioned as helping Penn pull one over on the Blazers to get a raise. That really started things crumbling for KP and he was gone a few months later. We will never really know what happened behind closed doors. Some people believe KP wanted Oden while some in management wanted Durant. Then there's the whole Roy issue. Some believe KP wanted a longer contract with Roy while management wanted a shorter contract. Perhaps it was the other way around, we will just never know. Overall, KP is a very likeable guy. He has got to learn to let go a bit though when it comes to the players.

^^^^ Fair enough. Would you care to substantiate the rumor that Portland was close to rehiring KP? If he was as bad as it sounds, I just don't see how it would've been possible.

Portland was not close to rehiring KP. My guess is that it was a rumor put out there by his agent, which the Blazers hate since the Tom Penn firing. He seems to do that with every GM opening in the press. Yet, KP took a job that was lower than an GM and Tom Penn is still doing spot commentary on ESPN.

I would trust KP over Larry Legend when it comes to running a team though.
