Antillon... ah... typo. He had a great fight with Soto which many people thought was the FOTY last year...

Williams doesn't look good at all... that KO really did a number on him.

I think his problem (besides the KO) is that he fights stupid. He doesn't use his size at all. He doesn't use his reach advantage at all. He puts himself in a position where smaller guys can hit him and he drops his hands which allows them to. And neither Williams nor his team doesn't see anything wrong with the way he's doing things. No wonder he's looking to retire. He's fighting a style that's killing his career.

judges were paid off......on the other hand, Brandon Rios destroyed Antillon, I had Rios winning but not in three rounds, was hoping to see another round, anyways there's really no one for him to fight at 135, he needs to move up to 140

Yeah and it's killing him physically. Maybe a change of trainer would be good for him cause the current one he has right now does't seem too bright.

"I would not have called it a robbery if the fight had been called a draw or if Erislandy Lara had been given a close decision victory. It was that type of fight. What I wanted to find out about was the lopsided scores of 117-to-111. You know what? The reporters and the guys at ringside are sitting there and they're talking to one another as the fight is going on.

"And, you know, that's pretty much what happens with [HBO's] on-air talent. So everyone kind of is the same page and they're going back and forth concerning what they're seeing."

"Here is the problem that I have with what happened that night that I didn't see or hear until I watched the replay. And that's how an announcing team can sit there and denigrate our sport to the levels that they did. They did it based upon what they believed that they were seeing. ... What I've got a problem with is them saying, 'This is why boxing is where it's at.' You don't like it? Get out.
"

Love them or hate them... HBO does one thing pretty damn good... it is to call bull when they see it. The higher ups at HBO might have man crushes on people... but you have people like Max Kellerman and Lampley not going sprinkle sugar on top of ****...

BoxingScene.com has received a copy of a letter dated July 13, 2011, from Aaron Davis, the commissioner of the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board, advising promoters Dan Goossen and Golden Boy Promotions, that all three judges from last Saturday's junior middleweight bout, involving Paul Williams and Erislandy Lara, have been indefinitely suspended.

Citing concerns over their scoring, Davis informed the promoters that his agency placed judges Al Bennett, Hilton Whitaker and Don Givens on suspension and all three will require additional training upon returning to boxing. After what appeared to be a dominating victory for Lara, the three judges scored a majority decision win for Williams, with scores of 116-114 (Givens), 115-114 (Whitaker) and 114-114 (Bennett). HBO had the fight scored 117-111 for Lara, as did BoxingScene.com.

Davis also noted that his agency found no evidence of corruption, but he did admit that his agency "did not provide our best officiating on July 9.”

So I watched BSL's video on Prince Naseem Hamed and it got me interested. I had never seen the guy fight before (I only watched Tyson, Holyfield and Lewis fights in the 90s) so I looked up some highlights on Youtube.

That might have been the most entertaining highlight video from any athlete period. From what I read he had the talent to be one of the all time greats but many felt he never lived up to his true potential (Like BJ Penn or Vitor Belfort I guess?). What do people here think of him?

BSL mentioned his fight against KevinKelly being a must watch, any others to recommend?

Also, his entrances were awesome

He was special in the sense that he was a small guy who had the an especially rare one punch knockout power. You don't see that at the lower weight classes. He also was the guy who really pushed interest in the lower weight classes. He also was an ungodly stupid fighter, I can't remember him ever throwing a textbook jab and cross. He did nothing remotely correct, but it didn't matter because he could end anyone night with one punch. His fight with Kevin Kelly is was epic. The Vasquez, Sanchez, and Bungu. He lost vs MAB and that was it... He never wanted a rematch and truth be told... I don't see how he could have won vs him. He had already made an ungodly amount of money. I remember that one year he made more than David Beckam. He just got fat, and lazy and his talent just flamed out. I am not sure if he is a HOF, but there has to be something to be said that a guy who weighed less than most college chicks could be soo much of a badass and bring so much attention to the sport. Without him, I don't think people would have known much less appreciated Mayweather or Pacquiao as much. HBO was never into the smaller weight classes until he came around and the light came on and realize that skinny guys fight til they are burger and make great fights.

Blame Rasho wrote:I actually saw the Sturm fight... damn it was a good fight. I mean Sturm is usually boring as **** and faces fighters who shouldn't be fighting him, so it was damn good to see someone on his level. It was a tight fight but I had him winning.

PS... I wish I had his abs...

Just watched this...God. Great fight, insane determination from Macklin, and the usual robbery from the Germans. 116-112 for Sturm?? **** that.

Sturm promised a rematch in the post-fight. ...Why? Unless it's outside of Germany. What would be the point of Macklin returning to Germany?
