Over on the espn braves boards, we have been discussing whether or not the Braves should be buyers at the deadline. Many say yes, word is Wren is looking for a RH OF or RH utility infielder. All of us agree the Braves should not make any trades if it would cost any of the top prospects.
Wren has stated Teheran is untouchable, all of us on the other boards would like to see Vizcaino, Delgado, Salcedo, Pastornicky stay in the Braves organization. Also most about half would be okay with a small acquisition like Ludwick or Byrd, some want to see a big acquisition like Kemp or Pence.
He is my trade proposal where we don't give up any of our Big 3 pitching prospects, it will cost us two prospects in the Braves top ten.(in bold)
Something like Nate McLouth, Mike Minor, JJ Hoover, Andrelton Simmons and Todd Redmon for Hunter Pence and Wilton Lopez.
I'd like to keep both Pastornicky and Salcedo. Think a future infield of 3b Prado SS Salcedo 2b Pastornicky 1b Freeman and C Mac would be really good.
That's why I put Simmons instead of Pastornicky and Salcedo.
Lopez gives us another RHP in the pen and lets us DFA Proctor.
41.2 IP 2 HR 13 BB 35 K 8 HLD 2.81 ERA 1.20 WHIP this season
With Chipper, Schafer to AAA or 4th OF
LF Prado
RF Heyward
3b Jones
C Mac
CF Pence
1b Freeman
2b Uggla
SS Gonz

You post over at the ESPN boards? I try reading them but can't stand the Phillies troll posts every 3 posts and duplicate threads upon duplicate threads. There is some decent content there but it really needs a moderator, badly.
I like the trade you proposed, Minor has been phenomenal in AAA but has struggled in the big leagues thus far (small sample size). I like having Minor as an option on our team considering he's the only starting lefty that is anywhere close to major league ready. At the same time, if he would bring an all star player it would be dumb not to trade him. I don't see Minor being better than a 3 starter in the major leagues and considering the Braves pitching depth, he's not a must keep prospect.
I doubt that the Astros would want McLouth, he has absolutely no value to them the rest of the year and they'd have to pay him $1.25 million next season to decline his option. The only reason the Astros do this trade is to shed salary.
I worry about Pence playing CF on a daily basis. Might not have to be a daily basis though depending upon Chipper's health.
All this being said, really would be surprised if a big move like this would be done. I like the Marlon Byrd idea, think he's a solid player that would give us an upgrade in CF, should come cheaply, has Georgia ties, and is hitting for average which seems to be the Braves biggest weakness this year.

Yeah, been posting over there for yrs. Those boards are more active than this one. There is actually some good people, good posters there. Have been trying to get those people to post here, mods are more active here. But if you mention realgm on an espn board, you get a 24 hr ban.
Was just throwing some things around, I too wouldn't mind a smaller move like for Byrd. I know he hasn't signed yet, but the Braves 2011 1st rd pick LHP Sean Gilmartin has more upside than Minor. That's why I put Minor in a trade for Pence.
As for Pence playing CF, he started 95 games in CF his rookie yr. Was only moved to RF when they got Bourn. During his rookie yr, he had 6 A 4 E and a .985 FDCT % in CF.

I prefer to keep our youth unless we happened to acquire an All-Star bat.
I use to post on the ESPN boards years ago. I lurked here when Realgm first started in 2001 and eventually decided to sign-up here. I tried to get some ESPN posters to come here, but it never seemed to work, because they felt they had "established" themselves on the ESPN boards.
It'd be nice if Realgm would focus more marketing on these boards to gain more traffic. At the moment they seem to be content with the NBA boards carrying them. Recruiting within on the NBA boards is probably the only way to get fans on here. I've tried several times to get Hawk fans to post here consistently but it's yet to work.

Pence is an All Star bat, and that trade I put doesn't give up a lot of top prospects. Only two, and allows us to keep the Big 3 arms, Teheran, Vizcaino and Delgado.

I understand that. I like your trade and I support it, but I highly doubt they'd accept it.

I know this isn't from Astros front office, from another forum. Astros fans gave their opinion, believe they came up with this idea. They gave their best 3 trade scenarios. I was basing my trade off trade 2 in the link, with some changes. Take out Delgado and Salcedo, replaced with Minor and Simmons. Also added Redmond to get Wilton Lopez.
