HBO Sports President Ross Greenburg is expected to be replaced, according to Lem Satterfield and Rick Reeno, and an announcement could come on Monday.

Sources indicate that Greenburg's run as the head man at the cable giant's sports division is thanks in large part to Manny Pacquiao jumping ship to Showtime for his May 7 fight with Shane Mosley, which left HBO without a huge event marquee fight until July 2's Wladimir Klitschko vs David Haye fight, and that wasn't a pay-per-view event. Ratings have actually been up for HBO's boxing events this year, but this has been churning in the rumor mill for months now, and should come as no surprise to anyone.

HBO still has a good shot at landing Pacquiao's next fight, which would give HBO four straight months of pay-per-view boxing events: Mayweather vs Ortiz (9/17), Hopkins vs Dawson (10/15), Pacquiao vs Marquez III (11/12), and with the latter fight, Cotto vs Margarito II (12/3).

But that just doesn't appear to be enough. Greenburg and HBO Sports -- including, most notably, Kery Davis -- have been criticized for not often using their budget effectively, and for often playing favorites with certain managers (Al Haymon) and certain promoters (Golden Boy and to a lesser extent Top Rank). They've also been criticized for overpaying for fights of certain fighters, with Andre Berto and Chad Dawson standing out in that regard.

The bottom line, I'm guessing, is that Greenburg, Davis, and the rest of the guys leading HBO's boxing group just haven't made any real progress in years, and even though ratings are up a tick this year, they probably just aren't up far enough. In 2007, a fight between Humberto Soto and Joan Guzman on Boxing After Dark drew 1.4 million viewers, for instance. In April of this year, during a free preview weekend, the Berto vs Victor Ortiz fight drew 1.5 million and was celebrated like a major happening. The next month, Bernard Hopkins and Jean Pascal did 1.8 million viewers, HBO's highest mark since 2009 (Klitschko vs Arreola, which got a bump from the Mayweather vs Marquez replay). It may all have been too little, too late, with emphasis on both counts.

Back in May, Yahoo! Executive Vice President Ross Levinsohn was rumored to be Greenburg's impending replacement, and ESPN.com boxing reporter Dan Rafael was rumored to be in serious talks to join HBO Sports as a matchmaker.

Great news because Greenburg has been riding the dicks out promoters and being too buddy buddy with them and forgetting that his job it to make the best fights for HBO...

On the Prince, I'd pretty much echo BR. He was style over substance but he had more style than pretty much anyone else at the time (and it's not like he had no substance). Because of his flare, he was vastly overrated.

What he was good at is looking good when he was supposed to. When he went against lesser talents, he demolished them. When he went against a guy at his level who actually had technique, he looked like an amateur.

I think the biggest testament to Prince is that he made fans have an emotional reaction to him, which is pretty rare nowadays. A lot of boxing fans thought he was a joke in terms of his showboating, sloppy technique and crazy enterances. On the other hand, some boxing fans (and most importantly, non-boxing fans) absolutely enjoyed the showmanship and the impressive power at a weight class where it was rarely seen.

Thanks for the insight BR and Mike Hunt. Yea I just watched Prince's fight versus Kelly and it was insane, but I can see how his style would get him into trouble against more technical fighters who refuse to play into his game.

I'm basically a noob who's looking at getting into boxing a little more. I only watch Manny and Floyd currently and in the past I really only watched Tyson, Lewis and Holyfield.

I'm watching some classic fights before I make my way into some of the more current stuff. I had already seen some of the obvious ones that were impossible to miss (Ali-Foreman, Ali-Frazier trilogy, Hagler-Hearns). Recently I've watched Leonard-Duran I & II, Leonard-Hearns I, Leonard-Hagler, Hearns-Duran and they were fantastic. I've already seen most of Tyson's notable fights but I watched some more of Evander's that I had never seen before (his trilogy vs Bowe, his fight vs Moorer). I also watched Foreman vs Moorer and Bowe's pair of fights against Golota.

A few random thoughts on some of those fights.. Although Hearns is considered a great, it's crazy to think how close he was to reaching legendary status if he beat Sugar Ray and Hagler. Both fights were very close.. It's also crazy to think how good Bowe could have been if he didn't suffer from Eddy Curry syndrome.. And on a related note, Is Golota the most (Please Use More Appropriate Word) fighter of all time? His low blows vs Bowe were ridiculous, he would have easily won both fights..

So yea, I've basically been under a rock when it comes to boxing.. If you guys can save me some Googling and point me to some of the great fights from more current fighters that would be appreciated!

Rodriguez/Wolak... that was nuts. Everyone who didn't see it needs to check it out. I think espn3 will have it up some time over the next 12 hours.

I saw it this morning, what a great battle. It is definitely one of the top 3 fights I've seen this year.

BTW, Marquez brothers fighting tonight in Cancun.

Really good, yeah. I think Rodriguez was held back by ring rust. He looked barely competent at the beginning of the fight. But, God damn, did he ever start winging punches in the later rounds...craziness. Yet Wolak would not even react to their impact.

And there's no one I'd rather see commentate a fight between two working class, hard luck fighters than Teddy Atlas. All-around beautiful.

I don't know if they can squeeze in the re-match before the end of the year or not. Possibly.

Anybody see the "tune-up" fight between JMM and Likar Ramos yesterday? Apparently Likar Ramos forgot how to act.

Now tell me that wasn't a dive.

He is a club fighter... fighting a top pound per pound fighter... but yeah he was just there to collect a paycheck and not get hurt.

He got his ass killed killed by Solis, I am scared of think if he really gave a damn, how bad Marquez would have **** him up.

Anyways if you are going into a match, saying you are going to lose or take a dive... at least take some god damn punishment.

To the guy talking about Naseem, I'll forever chuckle when I hear "Red Rat" and thinking about Kelly getting f'n livid whislt he waited for Prince to come down to the ring.

Antonio Tarver just defeated Danny Green in the 10th round by TKO. The fight wasn't really close - Green was held up by the ropes in the first and knocked down in the second. Green may have taken one round after that.
