Hawks - Lakers - Magic
A slight tweak on two trades ive seen on the board already.
ATL out: Horford, Williams, Hinrich
ATL in: Gasol, Bass, Blake, Ebanks
LAL out: Gasol, Odom, Blake, Ebanks, Artest
LAL in: Horford, Nelson, Anderson, Williams, Redick
ORL out: Nelson, Anderson, Bass, Redick
ORL in: Odom, Hinrich, Artest
http://basketball.realgm.com/tradechecker/saved_trade/5916897
Why?
Hawks
Gasol is a win now player the Hawks seem to need. He plays at his best at center, but he does need another solid center to do the dirty work and to protect him from playing center all game. Does Zaza fill that role?
Blake and Bass can both be solid backups to Teague and Gasol/Smith. Bass playstyle seems to fit both Gasol and Smith.
Ebanks would get no minutes behind Lakers logjam at SF (Artest?/Marvin/Barnes/Luke) so including him makes sense. Hes young, athletic, cheap, works hard and most laker fans seem to like him.
Lakers
This trade gives Lakers a chance to retool. Lakers get younger, more balanced, more athletic, some shooters and a solid young tandem in Bynum/Horford for the next 5 years.
Jammer finally gives Kobe someone in the backcourt to share ball handling duties with and that can actually score the ball. Redick and Anderson are two shooters Lakers desperately need.
Magic
Odom and Hinrich are players that would fit perfectly with Dwight and Arenas. Both are veteran unselfish team players.
I can see Odom making sure Dwight gets the ball the way he would always dish to Gasol for easy dunks.
Redick and Artest both make the same amount so swapping them might not be necessary although Artest would be able to mask Hedos defensive deficiencies.

You just presented the reason why it's dumb for ATL to trade Al Horford for Pau Gasol.

OK, well, I guess you don't like it from a Lakers perspective. I don't see them fielding a far better offer, though.
It's not as good as the OP, I'll give you that. But I think that the OP was too good for the Lake show, and anyway, Atlanta is far likelier to move Smoove than Al. I could see ORL adding a Walton/Anderson swap, but not much else can be done to this configuration. If LAL fans are waiting for an affordable, 25yo All-Star in exchange for an expensive 31yo one, they're going to be waiting for a looooooooong time.

So, we get an underachieving small forward, two guards and two picks for Gasol AND Artest AND Blake.
No way the Lakers even consider this. I think they're worse off with this trade after giving up those three players.

Yes, but Gasol by himself is easily worth more than that package.

The benefit for the Hawks is that they would get the best player in the trade for the next 3-4 years and a clear upgrade over Horford. Its not like Pau is going to decline significantly. His game is based on his length and skill. He'll still be an all star in the East for years.

I dont think Horford will ever be as good as how good Gasol is right now. Gasol is a legit 2nd option and was considered the second best big man behind Dwight earlier in the year. The reason I like Horford is because he seems like a natural 3rd/4th option and would fit perfect with Bynum and Kobe. Gasol wont transition well to being a third option behind Bynum since he doesnt excel at the little things Lakers would want him to be great at (defense, rebounding, etc.) Trading him to Atlanta makes sense since he would get the paint to himself and be the 19/9/3 guy hes been his entire career.

I think the Lakers will end up keeping Gasol. He's too valuable to them and not as much to other teams to give up their best young front court players. Plus, his contract is gigantic.

That trade is even worse for Atlanta than the first one. One of the biggest downsides of a Gasol/Smith deal is you are going to have to play one of your Pfs at center, so it doesn't solve a problem. Hinrich has a good bit of value to Atlanta. He is a big expiring and he can play both guard positions. He is basically the 6th man for the Hawks in the event Crawford isn't brought back, so I don't see Atlanta willing to trade him without getting good value in return. No, Blake is not good value. Adding Hedo for Williams isn't that good. Hedo is a better scorer, but makes more for longer. I prefer marvin's contract, especially when dealing with JJ's.

Nice trade OP! I think it addresses needs on all three teams.
Horford and Bynum are a young, big, talented front court. Although I would prefer Hinrich instead of Jameer, he is not a bad 4th / 5th option and can hold his own. More important, he is a leader. Williams is not great, but I'd rather have him than Artest. I LOVE the addition of Reddick and Anderson. They make this deal worth it IMO.
The Hawks aren't going anywhere without a change. Johnson / Gasol is a strong enough pairing to come out of the east. Bass is underrated IMO. Blake would be a good backup and Ebanks is a player with potential.
This deal is a steal for Orlando. Hinrich brings more to the table than Nelson on the defensive end. And his size enables him to play 2 guards. Odom will bring championship experience, rebounding and passing. Artest is the perfect sub for Hedo, bringing defense and intensity...two things Hedo lacks.

Gasol won how many championships at center? how is that his best position? Artest is toxic.
Blake? Ebanks?
Clear cut advantage to LAL as they can flip Horford's contract easier than Gasol to rebuild post Kobe.
Gasol would be great in ATL had we some decent big men. Artest and Ebanks are not the depth we seek.
