tour/2011/07/12/

Thanks to @gedrocks for the heads up that Kobe has arrived safely in Manila earlier this morning. As we previously reported, Kobe Bryant is starting his Nike Asia Tour in the Phillippines and will be holding mini-camps similar to what the camps he was holding last week in Santa Barbara, CA for his Kobe Bryant Academy.
The Philippines are definitely excited to see the Black Mamba finally arrive in their country as they are one of the BIGGEST Lakers fanatics we have seen.
From what we've learned, Kobe arrived at about 5pm local time and will begin his day at 1:30p at the Gawad Kalinga community in Taguig to dedicated a basketball court to the underprivileged kids of the area.
At 3pm, Kobe will head over to a Nike Park called the fort and then conclude the day over at Araneta Coliseum where Kobe catch a quick game between Smart-Gilas Pilipinas & UAAP-NCAA selection.

The Los Angeles Lakers superstar, who is in town to kick off his five-city Nike Asian tour, was included in a roster of NBA stars who will play in the series to be held for the benefit of the MVP Sports Foundation (MVPSF) to uplift Philippine sports and help develop Filipino athletes.
Organizers will officially announce full details of the giant cage event Friday at the Meralco Lighthouse inside Meralco Complex in Ortigas, Pasig.
The two-day basketball extravaganza, presented by the MVPSF, Smart, Meralco and TV5 with Maynilad, MNTC, MIPC and Philex Mining as other sponsors, coincides with the birthday celebration of basketball chief Manny V. Pangilinan on July 14.
Also in the NBA roster are Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma Thunder, Darko Milicic of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Tyreke Evans of the Sacramento Kings, DeAndre Jordan of the Los Angeles Clippers and Mario Chalmers of the Miami Heat.

Report: Kobe, Rose, Durant to Play in Exhibition Games in the Philippines
Over the last two days, there have been rumblings about NBA superstars possibly heading over to the Philippines for some exhibition games, and according to Interaksyon, Kobe Bryant, Derrick Rose and Kevin Durant will indeed be flying East to hoop: “Five-time NBA champion Kobe Bryant, reigning Most Valuable Player Derrick Rose, and two-time scoring champion Kevin Durant are taking their talents to Manila. The three stars will be part of a selection that will play a pair of charity exhibition games against SMART-Gilas Pilipinas national team and an all-star squad from the Philippine Basketball Association. Proceeds of the games will go to the MVP Sports Foundation, whose goal is to uplift Philippine sports and to develop Filipino athletes … The Manila games would mark the first exhibition game featuring active NBA players since 1997, when Shaquille O’Neal played with a touring team against a crack PBA selection. The game was a one-sided affair for Shaq and the rest of the NBAers, and was highlighted by the former Lakers big man lifting up Filipino point guard Johnny Abarrientos
for a dunk.”

Following Kobe's arrival in Manila, Derrick Rose and Kevin Durant will catch a quick flight over from their tours over in China to play some ball with the Black Mamba. Rose and Durant will come down and participate in a couple of games vs. Smart Gilas Pilipinas and PBA selection at Araneta Coliseum, which is the last stop of the day for Kobe.
Details are still coming in for the event, but these NBA Superstars are all meeting up in the Phillippines to help raise money to support the MVP Sports Foundation, which helps develop Filipino athletes.
So far, the details of the basketball event is that a team of NBA players that include Kobe, Rose and Durant will play against the Pilipinas and PBA selection. NBA players that are being listed on the rosters included Darko Milicic, Tyreke Evans, DeAndre Jordan of the Clippers and Russell Westbrook of the OKC Thunder.
The BIG rumors are Kevin Love and the Clippers Blake Griffin may also be joining the teams, so I hope all our Filipinos of Lakers Nation have their cameras ready and youtube accounts ready to go to share this event with us.
