What would you guys ask for Asik?

Post#1 » by parson » Mon Jul 18, 2011 12:57 am

ATL fan here, I come in peace.

Just wanted to start a little summertime discussion, since there's little else to talk about (other than CBA negotiations).

What would you ask from the Hawks in exchange for Omer Asik?

And please don't ask for Al Horford, unless you also offer to send Rose to us for Jeff Teague.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

We're not good trading partners. Atlanta doesn't have any inexpensive, young, good players except for Teague and it would be silly for you to trade him at this point. If we trade Asik most of us expect it to be for a SG (someone like OJ Mayo-- but some of us don't even want to do that) or, in our dreams, as part of a consolidation trade for Dwight Howard (teeny eeny weeny chance of that happening, I know).

I think its foolish to trade big for small. If we're gonna trade someone it should be korver, brewer, watson, bogans...guys like that.

It's not because he's untradeable. Not at all. It's because you don't have anything you can give us that would be of more use to us than Omer.

Nobody straight up. Maybe if we included him in a bigger deal involving Joe Johnson, Carlos Boozer and whatever.

I would say nothing that ATL has.

Not because ATL doesn't have talent they do but, we are a pretty complete team with only 1 glaring weakness.

We are set at C, PF, SF, and PG spots. We have plenty of depth. Though we could use a ball handling/scoring thread of the bench.

IMO most Bulls fans really like our young bigs (Asik and Gibson) and would only be willing to trade them for a significant upgrade at SG who could be a permanent solution next to Rose.

There aren't many players like that.

I'd consider Teague and Zaza for Asik and Watson.

I wonder how much offense Asik could gain in a years time. I see video of him practicing mid range jump shots in the gym, which I find funny, because he never takes those shots in a game.

There was one time last season I saw Asik try to go ISO and dribble drive past his man from the top of the key, it resulted in a travel but it actually looked pretty good if he didn't shuffle his feet. He should keep practicing that.

We really need our bigs to contribute more on the offensive end.

Please try to get my point: Asik for Horford is like Teague for Rose.

It really isn't, but, whatever. The point is taken, hyperbole aside.

So we'd have to do a 3-way -- IF you could be enticed.

OK, what player/package would you look for? What level of talent would you want?

For example, if you asked for Josh Smith to be sent to a 3rd team, what would you want from them? --Realizing, of course, we'd have to receive more than just Asik in a deal like that.

Sorry for the poor wording. I'm trying to ask what type of value you'd be looking for.

That is interesting. Like I stated earlier if we are losing one of young bigs, we would want a starting caliber SG that we could pair with Rose for a few years, thus the player should be relatively young.

I don't think we should trade Asik at all unless it's in a package for Dwight Howard.
