Re: Scavenger Hunt Draft - Slam's pick
Mainly because he is a double double, rebounding, 3 point shooing, stud of a machine who will work the pick and roll, pick and pop and pick and anything-you-can-dream-of oh so well with D.Will , but also in part because I want to punish Fats for making me draft #11.........
I'm taking Kevin Love as my Pac 12 player.

Still kinda surprised Rondo went that high, but I guess it was a tough category to fill.

I was defiantly in a conflict between Steph and K-Love, but I felt Steph fit with Melo better.

it was my next pick, assuming he made it back to me.

Taht's not thatm uch of advantage as it seems - all legit or better say deserving allstars owul be gone by further picks. It is basically advantage to pick a decent player like Ray Allen as all star over picking a someone qualifying as sharpshooter (like Ray Allen) or toothpick or other category. The difference is potentially steeper drop in quality in non-allastar categories (some are well populated by at least decnt players).

Yes, but there is a reason you took Dirk with the first pick because it saved your allstar spot, while still nabbing an allstar. If there were no specific spots to be filled you would of most likely grabbed a Rose, Howard, or LeBron. Now you since you have a open spot as an allstar you will be able to grab another allstar who may have not fit in any other catergories because there are plenty of them.

So I came up with a simple idea:
Reverse the draft order of the 3rd and 4th round,so instead of going 1-14 in the 3rd and 14-1 in the 4th,we do 14-1 in the 3rd and 1-14 in the 4th.
Good?
i would be ok with using this system for the 3rd and 4th rounds. thoughts?
does anyone have any objections to putting this into place for the 3rd and 4th rounds?
so basically it would go
1st round = 1 thru 14
2nd round = 14 thru 1
3rd round = 14 thru 1
4th round = 1 thru 14 (back to regular serpentine)
5th round = 14 thru 1
6th round = 1 thru 14
etc...
Well I would of course prefer the original order. I'm sending an email to Lamar what he thinks about it - would have to contact him as we are getting into second round and should make a decisoopn on that upcoming pick.
I wouldn't want to be a part pooper and veto it or something though.

(I'm speaking for myself, although i think Lamar would think similar way) I would grab him anyway, even as a dull allstar pick, sharpshooter eligibility only made it a no-brainer for me (althoug we discussed alternatives, but that's more abotu being a two man team than picking solo). I think you can't reach much with first pick if you are going to have 26 players off the board till you pick again. You won't get a big name all star left on board to compesnate getting a category steal if he would not be a top player. You have to go with top talent possibly filling a non-prominent category (that being a posible kicker) in the process and get a good value for category later to comliment your franchise pick from first round. If we would be picking late, then going for categories would be much more intriguing option I guess.
It is easier to fill allstar category with a considerable amount of names in all star games changing lately, that's true. I would have hard time passing on Nowitzki for Allastar category anyway. I would consider only Durant for Toothpick but since I've researched it more that category is not that shallow as I immediately thought.
I'm glad our team didn't get into position when BPA would be LeBron. I would want to reach for some else then.

Sad to see Curry gone I hoped there would be at least a slight chance to brought him up into discussion for our next pick(s).

Re: Scavenger Hunt Draft - Kemba2hendo's pick
There's a player I really want that fulfills no categories. Are we making exceptions at all? Maybe a "non-all star" category to give us one more pick in the draft?

in the past i had done a non-allstar category. i omitted it this year to get from 15 rounds down to 12, since 15 just took too long. i will bring that category back next year. however, for this year, i think its too late to add categories since others have started their draft strategies based on not having access to those players.

There's actually quite a large amount of players who don't fit any. The only "catch all" is the All Star Category which doesn't apple to probably 95% of the L. I think "West Coast" would be one to drop, honestly.

Re: Scavenger Hunt Draft - Kemba2hendo's pick
i still think its too late in the game to add categories or change them.
however, if the majority of the participants want a "never been an all-star" category added for this draft we can do it.
my proposal would be this
- instead of putting in the reversed order in round 3 (14 thru 1), we would keep the original order of round 3 (1 thru 14) then starting in the 4th round i would allow people to select players from the "never been an all-star" category. this would give an advantage to those drafting late in the draft since they would have first access to these players. we would still only have 12 rounds. you could replace any of the existing categories, except "NBDL", with the "never been an all-star".
everyone needs to vote
1. keep as is - with reversed order in round 3, no new categories
2. add "never been an all-star", staring in the 4th round, in place of the reversed order of round 3.
vote for 1 or 2.

I think it would be too late to add it. Those guys would be overpowered in the 4th round, meaning the 8 or so picks would just be ridiculous at that point.
EDIT: 2, but 1 on the condition that the players are made available immediately (I seriously doubt any would have been taken up to this point).

Re: Scavenger Hunt Draft - K2h's pick (also vote needed ever
I may not of picked any of them yet, but it still affected my draft strategy knowing who was going to be there later affected my decision. I may of picked a different position if I could of had a wider variety of players. I think it is too late for that, it is not giving anyone an advantage by not having these players in this. We all have the same players to choose. Where as I think option 1 helps even things out for those people who had to basically use their allstar category because all the stars who fell under categories were gone for the most part.
