Clippers (Tentative) 2011-12 Schedule

Post#1 » by mkwest » Tue Jul 19, 2011 7:36 pm

The Los Angeles Clippers will tip-off their 2011-12 NBA regular season schedule on Wednesday, November 2nd at STAPLES Center against the Memphis Grizzlies at 7:30 p.m.

The Clippers follow that up with the first of their franchise-high 20 nationally televised games, a home contest against the Portland Trailblazers on Friday, November 4th airing at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN. Los Angeles hits the road for the first time when they travel to Chicago (November 8th), Toronto (November 9th) and Boston (November 11th) before returning home to meet Philadelphia (November 13th). After the quick one-game home stand, the Clippers head to Houston (November 15th), San Antonio (November 16th) and Utah (November 18th) before returning to STAPLES Center to play seven of their next eight games at home.

This season, the Clippers are scheduled to appear five times on TNT, eight times on ESPN and seven times on NBA TV. The Clippers previous franchise-high for national television appearances occurred in 2006-07 when they were scheduled to appear in 19 nationally televised games. The Clippers game in Portland on February 16th will also be broadcast nationally on ESPN Radio. Other highlights on the schedule are home match-ups against the NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, January 18th, the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday, January 20th and Wednesday, April 4th, the Boston Celtics on Monday, December 5th and the Miami Heat on Wednesday, January 11th.

20 Nationally Televised Games
8 games on ESPN
5 games on TNT
7 games on NBA TV (blacked-out locally)

22 Back-to-back games :(
Longest Road Trip - 8 games
Longest Home-stand - 9 games (10 if you include road game @ Lakers)
We don't leave California at all between 12/31 and 1/30. Only non-Staples game is in Sacramento.

December has 9 road games and could prepare us for the infamous February schedule or maybe not...

It's fun to look at and think about, but the lockout changes everything. If we ended up having a 50 game season, then we're looking at 3 games in row, 5 in 6, no All-Star break, etc.

The first thing I noticed was how many nationally televised games we have scheduled. I'm curious how things will hold up since I'm not expecting us to play the full 82 game season. And from what I remember isn't the schedule usually released in August?

Maybe the NBA wanted to lay down ground work on a season schedule and make any changes it sees fit if games are missed.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

The NBA usually releases the schedule Mid-July, but the last 2 years there have been a lot of F.A. movement, so they waited. W/ the Lockout it is business as usual for Stern and the NBA offices. Stern is a sneaky,under-handed,spine-less little wretch & I wouldn't be surprised if getting the schedule out on time is a tactic in negotiations.
That being said, I hope the league is Locked out doesn't end until Jan.1st/2012. It will give the Clips a nice start at home for 8 games or so + the Clippers will give a 5% credit for Season ticket games not played (I can get an E.J. jersey.) The business end is, if the players come into camp in shape (whenever that i) I think the Clips have a great shot at the Playoffs and I would rather pay for Playoff tickets than Pre-Season games.
