Before the Nets talk came in the early part of the year, he did an interview with Kamla and Smith where he said the court was his refuge and he would be willing to finish the year out in Denver or anywhere he was sent, but also said I just won't extend anywhere on NBA TV in those after game interviews on the vid phone.
The Nets talks came and they took over the airwaves especially on ESPN. The media like the vultures they went after Melo, Karl, the team, the Nets, and both front offices. Then you started hearing more and more details and scenarios and the will he or won't he sign stuff. Melo dealt with it at first trying to be pc, but then his sister died and when he returned the Denver crowd booed him to no end, and he totally dominated Durant only to get booed. Then all the talk about what a dream it was to play in NYK came out of his mouth as he admitted they needed a resolution and it was just getting to him being politically correct at the point in public as there was obvious problems between him, the fan base, and management at that point.
I should have never worded it like he never talked about going to a different place, because he did. I should have set up what I said by going through what he said initially and then later on as the situation evolved as he did talk about NYK later.
That doesn't change the fact though that the nuggets were a mess with the way two other key pieces also said they wanted out, Karl's health, having no real big but Nene to start the year, and his frustration of past FO promises being broken already had him peaking out the door and favoring the idea of entering free agency just to see what was out there for him. Nor does the fact Denver bluffed with their ultimatum because they lacked the leverage to force him to sign and extend just anywhere, and that their bluff came out of fear of being Cleveland or Toronto as the team went from what 7 losing seasons before him and then 7.5 straight winning seasons with him and never missing the playoffs
You didnt have to go that deep lol. I was just stating how I wouldn't put much stock in him either. He hasn't won anything either. I'm not gonna play the ring care & say well Bynum has 2 things they don't. The thing I will say is this had we gotten further with the way he was playing it would have to have been seriously considered.
