Derons number retired?

Post#1 » by Lava Rock Kid » Thu Jul 21, 2011 3:06 pm

Lets presume that Deron has a great career and deserves to get his number retired. Lets also presume he doesnt stay with any other team more than 3 years. Does Utah retire his jersey since he would of playe the longest here?

No. He wasn't here long enough to warrant having his number retired......

I would think no. The players who have their jerseys retired are either the expected stars or players who made significant contributions to the team at critical times (Maravich, Layden, Miller, the big 3, Hot Rod) or were big parts of the team's evolution from bottom-dweller into the team it is now (Dantley, Griffith, Eaton).
In the grand scheme of things I don't know that Deron's contribution was enough of a standout--in either significance or duration--though he was the best player on the team during his time here.

Lets assume he goes into the hall of fame and never plays for a team more than 3-4 years, does he go in as a Utah Jazz player.
Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!

I'm assuming that if he goes into the hall of fame it is because of championships and all-star berths. So I'd bet he goes in as a player for the team those things happen with the most--or at least where he peaks.

I doubt it would ever happen, because he wasn't here for that long and things petered out toward the end, but I wouldn't have a problem with it. He had a good run here and led us through a very memorable playoff push (WCF season).

He clearly wasn't as good as Hornacek.

No. Deron wasn't here long enough, and the farthest we went with him was the Western Conference Finals. Because it's my belief that he was 90% to blame for the departure of Sloan and Johnson, I don't want his number retired either. I don't think it does. The next number that will get retired will be Kirilenko (I still think he comes back to the Jazz to finish out his career).

He would need to come back here and accomplish more to get his Jersey retired.

Oh wow

is deron that overrated on real gm?
what did he accomplish? where is the nba championships, hell the western conference championships? where is the mvp awards?

how many all star games did he make? i count 2
how many asg's did dantley make - 6

did deron ever lead the league in anything? besides pouting to the refs?

derons best accomplishment was landing us favors, kanter, burks, etc..end of story

I had to finally put a question mark in the title. Reading that as a statement and not a question ha been bugging me since day one.

I feel much better.
