July 31 Trade Deadline: Giants get Beltran!(?)

Post#1 » by TheLowlySquire » Sat Jul 9, 2011 11:24 pm

Carlos Beltran would waive his no-trade clause for us. I know there's a lot of reasons not to trade for the guy, but look at the pictures of our batting leaders and their stats. It's ok if you cry.

We need batters.

We'd have to ship out an OF as well if we do. That place would be pretty damn crowded.

Pat the Bat isn't going anywhere, especially since he's basically going to retire after this year. He signed for pretty damn cheap in the first place.

Jeff Keppinger eh? Not bad trade at all considering he's pretty much already our best healthy middle infielder and the two pitchers we gave up won't amount to much. Decent trade, but I'm expecting more.

Well, apparently more is going to happen.

Sabean and Astros GM Ed Wade discussed a Keppinger trade last week but put it aside as the Giants concentrated on a bigger-impact deal with another team - not believed to be for Mets outfielder Carlos Beltran.

Fans also need to be realistic about a deal for an impact hitter such as Beltran, Houston's Hunter Pence or Minnesota's Michael Cuddyer. Sabean said the market for such hitters is hard to identify, and the market for catchers and shortstops is nonexistent.

He pledged to continue to work toward a deal because the Giants believe Arizona is not going to fade, and because "we think we need the help. We really do."

To clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Keppinger, the Giants moved Sanchez to the 60-day disabled list. They will have to drop a player from the 25-man roster when Keppinger is activated. Emmanuel Burriss seems most vulnerable. The Giants cannot cut Bill Hall while he is on the disabled list.

See ya Burriss....

More about Keppinger...

Keppinger was hitting .307 with a .755 OPS in 169 plate appearances for the Astros this year, after starting the season late because of a foot injury. In 40 plate appearances against left-handers, he had a monstrous OPS (1.137) and will arrive just in time to start today against Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw.

I saw the 300 hitting and was excited, but saw the at bats and was like meh. He's a career 290 hitter i believe, so i think he'll do alright

And im excited to see their future moves that they make, as long as they dont involve Schierholtz

I don't suppose we could con some other team into taking Aubrey Huff off our hands.......

If we're getting anyone in a trade we're giving up prospects. I really doubt we'll be able to trade anyone from our 25 man roster (or JSanchez).

I read somewhere that in a trade for Beltran we'd be giving up a prospect outfielder. Can't remember the name .. Beltran would be nice :)

Gary Brown is untouchable, at least, he better damn well be. He's the next Buster/Belt type player.

He and Wheeler are staying with the Giants, and especially are not going to be used in a piece for a FA who will command too much money as soon as the off season starts.
