"The Quickest Offseason Ever" Thread

Post#1 » by WEFFPIM » Tue Jul 26, 2011 5:17 am

Any signings, re-signings, trades and goodbyes in the next week, let's put them in this handy dandy thread!

Maynard's already gone. Goodbye, multiple team MVP winner.

Per Chicagobreakingsports.com

According to a source, the Bears already have reached out about unrestricted free agent Justin Durant from the Jaguars and the signing of Durant "could happen." The Bears are looking for another option alongside Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs, with Nick Roach an unrestricted free agent set to test the market and Pisa Tinoisamoa, also a free agent, coming off major knee surgery. Tinoisamoa would be limited in training camp if re-signed by the Bears.

The Chicago Bears landed one of the prizes of the undrafted free agent class Tuesday morning when Ohio State receiver Dane Sanzenbacher agreed to terms with the team.

Sanzenbacher was one of the most pursued undrafted free agents. His agent Joe Flanagan said Sanzenbacher had been sought by 25 of the 32 NFL teams, and he received phone calls from team owners and quarterbacks offering sales pitches to his client.

Love the Sanzenbacher addition. He could very well make the club.

I really would like the Bears to sign Herzlich. He seems like a guy who can replace Urlacher in a couple years.

I can't believe that Maynard's no longer with the Bears.

Hold me.

I'm glad Maynard is gone. He seemed to blow it in crunch time too many times during the last 2 seasons. Good time to find a replacement

Steve Weatherford (jets punter last year) is the likely replacement from what I've read thus far.

Linnekohl can make the team. Not sure about Sanzebacher--nice kid, great effort, glue for hands but he's not fast and not quick. That flew for Steve Largent but that was (gasp that I'm old enough to remember watching him!) 30 years ago and the game has changed.

I just noticed the Ryan Jones signing. Best UDFA DB on the market IMO. He needs a year on the practice squad but IMO he can absolutely become at least a nickel back in the NFL in 2 years. He was courted by several teams as well. Be patient with him.

The Dallas Cowboys will cut ties with wide receiver Roy Williams, multiple sources said Tuesday.

Team owner and general manager Jerry Jones met with some players Tuesday morning and told them not to bother reporting to training camp Wednesday in San Antonio because they will be cut.

With the Cowboys' planned cuts, Jason Garrett is sending the message to the Cowboys that he has real power, unlike his predecessor, writes Todd Archer.

Marion Barber, Pro Bowl guard Leonard Davis and kicker Kris Brown also will not be returning to the Cowboys, multiple sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter and ESPNDallas.com

I'd be fine with Roy Williams and a solid LG as are only new players on offense

Get him. He's probably getting a little over the hill but who cares? ...he's still good!

Brad Smith to Chicago will be announced within the next couple of hours. Slot receiver, #3 QB, gadget play guy.

Doesn't appear that Rice or Edwards are in the plans. I don't see how Smith helps us much. He caught 4 balls last year and 7 the year before. KR to replace Manning? Meh, we have Knox and Hester who can return kicks still and KR's will be far less prevalent now. This doesn't excite me at all.
