Jason Thompson all day everyday. Better shooter, better defender, better inside scorer, better rebounder, bigger, stronger etc...

People overrate him because they heard that Cleveland wouldn't trade him for Amare. They point to his 20ppg and 10rpg at the end of last season without realizing that he was the number one option on the team and that he was the only rebounder on the floor because Anderson Varejao and Antawn Jamison had been out with season ending injuries. Which opposing team plays hard when the season is about to end anyway? They also don't know that his "incredible inside scoring" consists only of face up jump shots and one dribble finishes off of passes from LeBron James.

Ehh, they're good at different things. JT isn't the better inside scorer though.

As a teams top 3 talent Hickson "all day, every day", but JT still might be a better fit for this team. I'll have to wait and see how Hickson fits in.

Man... that's a great problem to have ... the PF position is stacked lol... Kings will be great with Jimmer Tyreke Hickson Cousins and Thompson

I think Hickson has the higher ceiling, but Thompson has the bigger heart. I usually choose talent over heart when it comes to predictions.

I think the smarter player will win. JJ is the better Athlete but JT is more polished.

i like jj's potential especially defensively... an athletic, capable shotblocker solid rebounder with a jumpshot would be nice if he gets it.... jt is the complete team player type of guy who wont mind his stats and do the dirty work and cheer his teammates up if he's not playing.... i'll take jj but i would also definitely keep jt on this team!

JJ's shot blocking is a part of his game I'm interested in because he clearly has some very intriguing weakside abilities, but his production leaves a lot to be desired. You look at his stats from last year and his Jan/Feb blocking numbers were looking pretty sweet then, BOOM, gone with the wind. You don't just block shots for nearly 30 games and then all of sudden not unless something changed within the player or somewhere else. Maybe Cavs fans can answer that.

JJ's drop off in his shot blocking rate could be attributed to him being moved back to the PF spot towards the end of the season. I do not think he has much promise as a weakside shot blocker, I just do not think the timing is there.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

But did he play C in his rookie year? He had decent per minute stats then as well. Position could have a little to do with it but you shouldn't see THAT kind of a drop off unless something major changed. He at least has some promise because he's demonstrated the ability, I'd be interested to hear in his own words what was up with that.

I do not think Hickson's rookie season is a good basis for much of anything. If you are basing his ability to block shots on any per36 numbers, his 2nd and 3rd seasons are better indicators.

Per minute stats are usually a pretty decent indicator in shot blocking though, especially if you can block a decent amount per 48. There should be some tailing off, but not the kind of tailing off Hickson experienced from month to month. That's just straight up lack of effort kind of stuff right there. Could be reasons behind it, like I said, I'd be interested to know. Now a days you don't want your best players testing fouls by trying to block everything so maybe that's partially it, position could be some of it, etc.

I think Thompson's skill-set for the Kings going forward. Every team needs the polished 'dirty' work big man that can shoot, hustle and defend in order to be successful. JJ is the better scorer, but I think Thompson is handily better in virtually the rest of the game.

Agreed.^^

Maybe JJ can be the off the bench scorer we wanted Landry to be? I don't know, but I like JT's skillset more next to Cousins (although I like Sam's skillset next to him way more than either of them :-( ).
