Was just about to post this. Like OP said, according to the Whitesox forum, this guy is pretty reputable and he broke the Peavy move. They all seem to be taking his word for it.

If it's true I can see us flipping Jackson in a deal to get Rasmus possibly.

Here's a thread where the guy breaks the Peavy deal, and apparently also the Garland/Cabrera deal prior.

Teahen would be a pure salary dump by Chicago. He makes Patterson looks good and is owed $5.5 million next year. For the White Sox to trade Jackson now the prospect going the other way will be a big one if this rumour is true.

Jackson is a free agent after this year, he's represented by Boras, and he tends to get lit up by the Yanks and Sox. If this is true, and we're giving up something significant alongside Frasor, this move kinda scares me. Ballsy, but worrisome.

I'm a little intrigued by Jackson if he could take what he's learned from the Sox pitching coach and sustain it. I think he's been good there.

The Boras thing is troubling.

Woah, he throws 36.5% sliders now. I don't recall him ever being on the DL though. His fastball has also abysmal until this season. Less intrigued now, he needs a fastball.

I doubt the minor leaguer will be more than a mid-tier prospect depending whether there is any salary relief from the sox or not and either way i hope and think jackson will be flipped before the deadline ( maybe possible to ship after the deadline too) should this all come to fruition. fingers crossed!

He has a big fastball; the problem has always been that he doesn't have the greatest command, and his tendency to overthrow resulted in a lot of 95 mph fastballs up and over the plate, and against good offenses that's bad news. Throwing his slider more has helped keep hitters off the fast stuff (though 30+ sliders per game is scary business, as you noted), and if someone could teach him a consistent change-up, he'd be lethal. He gets a tonne of grounders, has very solid components over the last two years...all of that good stuff.

It's a gamble that would be worthwhile if we're sure that we can retain him and the prospect surrendered isn't one of our very best, but only then.

He's at the very bottom of the Type B rankings at the moment.

Ballsy move considering the Jays probably get higher compensation with Frasor no? They must have something in the works for Jackson as well before making this deal or see it as a necessary gamble. The very least they get a starter to shop around, and if can't work a deal out for him, difference between the draft spots are minimal between Frasor and Jackson

(If I'm understanding the situation right)

Jackson/Frasor would return the same compensation if they both turned down arbitration; the position of the pick is determined by record. And as Jackson would never survive waivers after July 31st, we wouldn't be picking him up to flip him...it'd be with the intention of keeping him on a long-term deal.

That deal makes no sense for the Jays. Even if they are making the deal to flip Jackson to a 3rd team, why take Teahen's salary on top of that? And if Jackson is a Type B free agent, then he has no real advantage of keeping Frasor for the rest of the season. Doesn't seem like a move AA would make.

Another thing to note: how many times has an AA trade leaked before it actually happened? He inherited the Halladay circus, but outside of that, the fanbase was basically blindsided by Marcum/Lawrie, League/Morrow, Wallace/Gose, Gonzalez+/Escobar, Wells/LAA, etc. Not saying this move won't happen, but I'm now used to AA's trades coming out of nowhere.

Maybe in lieu of giving up a better prospect? We take on your garbage so we can peddle Edwin for Rasmus in another deal?

I recall rumblings of a Morrow deal, prior to its completion.

Its not unlikely that other front offices have leaks.

If we are taking back Teahen's ungodly salary, then the prospect going the other way is not much. This looks like a good old fashioned contract dump by the Sox. We already seem set at 3B with Jose, E5, Lawrie, and Johnny Mac in a pinch. If the plan is to DH Teahen next year, he's not much better than E5 while costing more.
