I remember when we traded for Gose and people here thought it was for a Cooper like prospect. It ended up being Wallace who at the time was arguably our best prospect.
Could it be Frasor + Gose going out for Rasmus? If Rasmus is our CF of the future, Gose being in the deal makes some sense. I would do this deal.
To get someone like Rasmus (a young superstar) we'd have to give up one of our top prospects.
I meant a Cooper-like prospect going to Chicago, with a much better prospect headed to St. Louis. The White Sox are in pretty dire payroll straits right now, so it's not inconceivable that they'd do it as a salary dump, if they believe that they have no shot at retaining Jackson in the off-season.
There is no way I'd call Rasmus a young superstar and isn't there concerns about his ability to play CF?
He's not a very good defensive center fielder, but he's capable of playing it better than anyone we have at the moment.

As of now, Travis D'arnaud, Anthony Gose, Adeiny and McDade are all here and warming up. Game in 20 mins.
Good news.

Whoa!
Hopefully Sierra is part of the Rasmus exchange and not the prospect with Edwin Jackson (I'd expect that one to be a little less)

Rasmus had a good year last year due to a high-BABIP. He hit .276/.361/.498/.859 with a .356 BABIP. He had the 7th highest BABIP-xBABIP difference in baseball (chart)! This year when his BABIP is down to a normal .286, his batting line is down to .241/.327/.402/.730.
I haven’t seen enough of Rasmus in person to say anything definitively, but it seems like his defense isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Fangraphs has his UZR this season so far at a -6.8 (for reference, Alex Rios clocks in with an almost-as-bad-but-still-better -5.4). Half of one season is definitely too small of a sample size, but things don’t look much better in 2010: Rasmus posted an almost-identical -6.7 over the whole season. (Rios in ’10: +1.3).

Still, he was the 3rd best prospect in the USA as per Baseball America so the upside is there.

Cards love their vets. Like I said earlier, wouldn't be surprised Rzep included in the deal as the Cards desperately need a lefty reliever.

That makes sense. Our outfield looks really good. Snider or Thames/Rasmus/Bautista. We just need to upgrade 2B and the lineup looks pretty good. Oh, and our pitching.

So is it something like:
To Cards: Sierra, Zep, Dotel, Jackson
To Jays: Rasmus, Teahan
To Sox: Cooper, Frasor
That seems reasonable. After all, Brett Wallace only hit .300 in LV and Cooper is hitting .370

He's also putting up a wRC+ of 111, and even being a below-average defensive center fielder gives him real value. It's a great buy-low situation, especially if part of his problem is Tony LaRussa -- as part of Escobar's problem was Bobby Cox.

Ive always been a fan of David Cooper and I think some of you writing him off will regret it. Guy can flat out hit. Not saying he ll become a star but he can be a good player.

Anthopolous is really indicative of what makes for a great GM...it's not having greater knowledge than everyone else, it's being completely and utterly relentless. He hasn't been finding diamonds buried in the rough, he's simply staying in touch with what every other GM in baseball is willing to part with and what they desire, and working his ass off until he can align what they want with what he has.

**** your asterisk.

He plays no position (he can't field at 1B) and hits for no power. He's not somebody we need to worry about.

Yes he can hit - but what good does that ultimately do for us - we have enough bats that aren't spectacular anywhere out on the field. Cooper got his look, so did Thames. One cowered, one mashed. We're sending the other on, and I'm fine with this, even if he does turn it around.
Rasmus!

From an MLBTR poster:
A fairly reputable Cardinals site has a Toronto poster saying that it is Jackson, Rauch, and prospects to St. Louis for Rasmus

agree. In that sense he is not only a GM of a team but also a middleman/broker for rest of the league.

He'll be playing first base though because he doesn't have any other possible position. He might turn out to be a good player, but not any huge loss. His BB/K numbers in AAA have been fantastic though.

It also helps that he's dealing with people who irrationally hate their young talented players. This looks like the Yunel trade all over again.
