Wasn't he the one who blew the coverage on 4th and 26th?

he was a rookie though... SIGH..

I don't blame Barnett for the 4th and 26; he was a rookie and [ I feel ] he shouldn't have been put in that position to begin with. That said ....

Other than 2007, when he probably should have been in the Pro Bowl, I just never saw that much production from him, despite his physical gifts. The majority of his tackles were 5 yard gains, even when then Packers ran a 4-3 that basically funnelled all the run plays to the MLB. He was fast, but he couldn't use it effectively - constantly overrunning his gap and letting RB's cut back on him, and when he was blitzing, he was so out of control he would usually just ran right by the QB.

It was just frustrating, because you could see the physical ability ( not being taken advantage of ).

I don't think anyone "hates" him.

I am not a fan of Barnett because of that stupid dance and when he chose to do it. Oh, we're down by 14 and you made a tackle on a guy who just rushed for 3 yards? Congrats, you **** idiot. Way to celebrate like a d-bag. I wish I could have been there to just point at the scoreboard like the guys on the other team should have.

I also didn't like that he continuously said he refused to come off the bench, share time, etc. To me that screams "It's all about me"... Where as guys like Desmond Bishop, AJ Hawk and Brandon Chillar all accepted their roles, even if they felt like they were worth more.

The last straw for me was the whole picture nonsense last year. I know a lot of people don't think that was a big deal, but it really **** annoyed me.

You do have to admit that some of the questions that prompted his statements were funny. I remember specifically a time when he responded about moving from MLB to OLB because of Abdul Hodge and he was justifiable in stating he was obviously the starter at MLB. It rubbed people the wrong way because Hodge was all the rage that preseason, but that doesn't mean the players or coaches thought that way.

I think sometimes people forget that the perspective as a player or coach is a lot different than the perspective of a reporter or fan. The whole issue with the SB picture is a good example of that since I don't think it was much of a distraction at all for the team.

When did this happen? Of course he wanted to start. What player doesn't but I don't remember him outright refusing either of those things. Outright refusal would certainly lead to a trade request especially after Bishop and Hawk were signed wouldn't it? And even after Bishop and Hawk were signed, all he said was that he still wanted to be here and that he would like the opportunity to compete for the spot in camp.

Sorry, that illustrates the point that he is a moron. I don't believe that "Picturegate" had anything to do with him getting released. I think it has more to do with his cap number and us believing that Bishop is a better player. Obviously, Barrnett isn't mature enough to acknowledge that.

In Barnett's defense, I think his reference to picture-gate was probably related to fan backlash/angry tweets he received over it.

If we got rid of Chillar too, who would we even have left to play ILB? (Outside of obviously Bishop/Hawk)

Smith, Brad Jones, outside FA. It remains to be seen and would have to sort itself out. Wouldn't be the first time we broke camp visibly thin somewhere.

Eh, I wouldn't be too worried and chillar seems to be quite replaceable. FWIW I thought I saw somewhere earlier today that GB is in talks with Wilhelm to bring him back. Special teams and depth, makes sense, especially if Chillar is cut.

I guess where I am on our ILBs is that I'm not a big enough Chillar fan to feel more confident in him than in any of these other options, especially given his injuries. Chillar is supposed to be a great coverage backer, but it seems like TEs roast him as often as anyone. Might as well see if someone with shoulders has it in them to grow into the backup role.

I'd be willing to cut Chiller and move Brad Jones to ILB full time. I don't want Jones playing OLB instead of Walden, Zombo or the rookie so we might as well save some cash and give Jones the back up ILB job, assuming the coaches believe he can make the transition.

The thing with Brad Jones, and hopefully someone else remembers this being mentioned around the time he went on the DL last year, but McCarthy pretty much called him out publicly for not being tough

The thing about Chillar is that we've specifically used him to cover TEs man to man as part of the scheme and we really don't do that with our other LBs. Using him man on man with the TE frees up Dom to get more creative with the other defenders. We've done that because the coaches think so highly of his coverage skills. Dom wouldn't have created the defense where Chillar was substituted in for the SS if he didn't think Chillar was an excellent coverage LB.

I realize this, I just don't think either of those things worked too well. Chillar man to man on a TE generally meant an open TE, and Big Okey was a creative necessity birthed by a lack of healthy safeties. If that happened again, I'd rather go get another safety.
