Giants get Beltran

Post#1 » by TheLowlySquire » Wed Jul 27, 2011 7:28 pm

Probably for Zack Wheeler, #35 in Baseball America's top prospects list.

I'll withhold judgement until after I see him play, but I'm sad that the Giants are giving up such a good prospect for a soon to be FA.

Good deal for both teams IMO

This is good for the Giants not only because they need Beltran, but because the Phillies and Red Sox don't get him and SF could very well have to beat them. So it could be a pretty big swing between having Beltran and one of those teams having him in a series

another terrible trade made today

why are the giants giving up a prospect for a rental in which they get no compensation picks if he leaves in the FA since he cant be offered arbitration per his contract?

Just that desperate for a bat?

The Giants gave up too much for a rental. Beltran's going to help them, but unless they resign him this deals going to look pretty bad in a few years.

Incredibly desperate. We definitely gave up too good an arm for a 35 year old upcoming FA, even considering all our hitting problems.

Well, that and winning the WS this year. Which is what Sabean aims to do. Even if he did give up too much.

with this trade the Giants already won the 2011 WS so it was worth the price

So chuffed about this as a Mets fan. Was hoping we could somehow steal Bumgarner as well, but that's just me pushing my luck.

Alderson with a great trade for us.

You'd have to give up at least 2 A prospects plus Wright and Reyes along with Beltran if you wanted bumgarner

The Phillies look even better trading for Hunter Pence. Sure, the Phillies gave up more than the Giants did but Hunter got 2 years left on his contract. He will be a Phillie for awhile while Beltran's future remain uncertain. Beltran doesn't solve the Giants' offensive woes. They still got holes to fill in their lineup

I think it was a good move for the Giants. A prospect is just that - a prospect. Beltran is a sure thing.

If Beltran is a sure thing, why has he sucked in San Francisco?

The offense has gotten so much worse since Beltran joined the team. Giants FO got raped in all their trades this season.
