Re: Some Guy Ranked Us Last In...
Rich4114, I like your view on the Bobcats. Players trade values as far as skills means nothing to a team like Charlotte that will build with draft prospects and tons of cap space for "the right" free agent, when the timing is right.
And your team does have some trade value with the expiring contracts you have. The next CBA could put teams on the clock for getting their team cap reduced. Also, players like Diaw and Najera will likely be looked on as depth for teams wanting to make a playoff push.

Re: Some Guy Ranked Us Last In...
I wouldn't rate us last, I'd actually put us ahead of a few teams with better rosters even ie, Milwaukee,Minny,Sacto & sorry because this has already caused a stir but Indy aswell.
I would consider our management better than 75% of the league, people that bash MJ's management are full of **** & basing it on a decision he made 10 years ago.
Milwaukee-is building the team that we weren't trying to build, they'll be an 8 seed first round flameout for a couple of years before going further back into mediocrity. If he was a rapper Brandon Jennings would be called "30 percent" because that's what he shoots. Struggled for FA's historically.
Minny-They have an awesome amount of talent but have no direction,no coach & are woefully mismanaged/owned by Glenn Taylor. Struggled for FA's historically.
Sacto-They have a lot of young talent but their "leader" is one of the most selfish young talents in the game without definition of a true position, luckily they have Demarcus Cousins to be the teams glue guy. Struggled for FA's historically.
Indy-Good talent but have been mediocre for a long time now, they have the talent to compete but havent for years, Danny Granger is their number one guy & would be number three on a good team. Roy Hibbert is still frustratingly inconsistent & Collison isn't the same since he went there. This is the NBA where if you are not going forwards you are going backwards. Struggled for FA's historically
Cleveland-Dan Gilbert is their saving grace, he's willing to spend & wants a winner. I'm not sold on Kyrie Irving & WTF with Tristan Thompson at 4?? You can't blame them for taking the perceived #1 prospect of this draft over Williams but if BOTH these picks don't pan out Cleveland is in purgatory...also oddly enough they play the same positions as their 2 best players Baron Davis & Antawn Jamison & their third best in Ramon Sessions(who played very well during last years trainwreck of a season) Struggled for FA's historically.
Toronto-Has a great young core in Derozan,Davis & Valanciunas, they also have Andrea Bargnani & Jose Calderon's contracts to deal with unfortunately. Who doesn't think that messrs Derozan & Davis won't be stateside after their rookie deals?? Any FA's want to play in T.Dot?? Struggled for FA's historically.
LA Clippers-2 words that aren't Blake Griffin....Donald Sterling
Charlotte-Kemba,Hendo,Maggette,TT,BB is an awesome young core minus Maggettes old shot jacking self but he will be replaced by Harrison Barnes,Quincy Miller or Michael Gilchrist I assume next draft. We also have a state of the art stadium with state of the art facilities, An Worldwide Iconic Figure as our owner & who i believe to be the best young GM in the league. I think we be alright & definitely not the team that has the bleakest future.

I think our ranking will change when the draft order is announced. We'll have our own pick, and Portland's pick. Even if the ping pong balls don't fall our way we could package and move up again.

In that scenario I imagine that Cho would get creative.

Do we have their pick in 12? I had been hearing that we don't get it until 13. That would be great. Some high lottery team that is forward tight like Cleveland or Minnesota might be willing to trade down with us to grab Beal or Rivers.

Sik, the point of the ranking is team trade value, not overall positioning for the future. Attractiveness to FAs, management, cap space... they were not a part of the ranking. All of the teams you listed have way more valuable pieces than us. As crunk notes, we'll probably move up once we claim our most valuable asset (next year's pick), but until then we have the least valuable roster in the league.

Well... actually it was just in general. He just happened to reference another set of articles in which he discusses trade value.

I wrote the article, I tried to rank it for the future in general (though my hypothesis is total trade value is the best way to do that)
I understand the apprehension about ranking a team like Milwaukee over a Charlotte when it appears the former have no chance of drafting a superstar. I try to rank that in the value of the high draft picks, but that's the part of my measurement I trust least. If Charlotte fans would rather have their 2012 pick than Andrew Bogut, I respect that perspective but I give Bogut the edge. When I play poker, I don't call massive bets pre flop even if I think I have a better hand than them. That's leaving too much to uncertainty to me.
I am very confident that both Minnesota and Milwaukee thought Bogut had more value than #2 Derrick Williams (who I believe has more value than Charlotte's pick). Otherwise I think that deal happens. So there is a precedent for lottery teams thinking Bogut is > less certain draft pick.
I will say Charlotte has "upside" due to the boom/bustability of the 2012 pick. They're charging up the NOS can and might fly up. But there's a reason teams don't give everything they have for these picks, the chances of it turning into a player better than Andrew Bogut are small, and the price of giving up or refusing a Bogut for that chance is high since franchise centers are so hard to get. So I trust my metric in that regard, though Milwaukee isn't in my top 20 so it's not like they aren't in just as brutal a position to actually have a chance to win a title. It'll probably take a trade for an unhappy Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, etc. sometime in the future OR a fluky Pistons like run maybe after getting like a Kevin Martin, Andre Iguodala combo added to bogut. Neither are impossible I suppose, just unlikely.

I respect that. Thanks for hitting up the forum, were you using a google tracker or anything? Or just caught your eye?

Bogut's injuries make him pretty uncertain. You also have to realize that teams have to worry about timing.

About the Bogut for Derrick Williams trade, you also have to remember Beasley and Love. Trading one of the three for a true Center in Bogut just makes sense for the team.

Re: Some Guy Ranked Us Last In...
I find Bogut vs Bobcats pick a pretty tough choice. I like Bogut A LOT. I think he is under-appreciated, and he's a legit C and those are very hard to find. I don't know a lot about the top draft prospects, but I hear they are hot stuff. The Bobcats could land one of them - Wallace out and Maggette in is a great recipe for an awesome pick.
I don't think I can really argue too hard against either position. If I ran a team and had an offer of Bogut, or the Bobcats pick, I would likely decide based on where my team was at the time. If I thought I could build a contender during Bogut's shelf life, I'd go Bogut. Otherwise I'd go Bobcats pick.

They can't. But they traded for a weaker pick to get Stephen Jackson, so they clearly think they can.

Pardon me, but I've fallen behind in this conversation. Who is "they"? The Bobcats? And what is it they can't do? I'm confused.

I think we should bump this after the season starts(whenever that is)
