Daily Papers - Aug. 5th Lawrie Edition

Post#1 » by Strav » Fri Aug 5, 2011 2:47 pm

Thought today was deserving of some daily paper action.

Griffin: Brett Lawrie Era starts for Blue Jays

The long-anticipated promotion to the majors of Brett Lawrie as baseball’s next great Canadian player is at hand. He will be in a Blue Jays uniform on Friday in Baltimore bearing number 13 on his back and the weight of a nation on his shoulders.

Great expectations and great TV - Doug Smith (really?)

Now, here’s a question about Lawrie that’s been rattling around in this cranium for a night or so. Is he the most anticipated pro athlete to hit Toronto in years? I’d say yes.

Brett Lawrie arrives, will fix all that’s wrong in your life - Andy Behrens

Finally, Brett Lawrie gets the call to the majors, so the fantasy surge can begin. Huge day for my fantasy portfolio. HUGE. Maybe the biggest since the Jered Weaver waiver claim of '06.

This obviously gives the Jays a realistic shot to close that 13-game gap with the Red Sox, probably within a week. But, alas, Lawrie has been called up too late for his team to reach the single-season record for wins (116). Next year it's basically a lock. Fearless forecast, rest-of-season: Badass.

Lawrie getting a taste of the bigs - Ken Fidlin

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. - Nobody had been anticipating Brett Lawrie's arrival to the big leagues more than Travis Snider. The two have become best of friends in the short time that Lawrie has been in the Toronto Blue Jays family. They shared a condo in Florida with J.P. Arencibia in spring training and commiserated earlier this season when Snider was sent back to Las Vegas. Now in one of those cruel twists of fate, Lawrie will join the Blue Jays Friday in Baltimore and the spot he'll be taking on the roster is Snider's.

Brett Lawrie’s rise is a family affair - MATTHEW SEKERES

There is confident, there is cocky, and there is arrogant. Then there is Brett Lawrie. The Toronto Blue Jays’ third baseman, who is expected to make his major-league debut Friday night in Baltimore, is a unique Canadian ballplayer in many respects, foremost attitude. The country’s highest drafted position player isn’t a meek interloper in America’s national pastime. He’s more a self-assured superathlete who feels he belongs on the biggest stage.

actually looks like a 3B..... good thing they moved him from 2B

second basemen tend to be the thin or even short type.... guys that rely more on their speed and athleticism.

Lawrie looks like a big ripped guy.... he woulda looked odd at 2B... and like reported sucked also

I hope people don't expect too much too soon from Lawrie. He is still just 21.
