Maybe because Thames has been awesome in the two hole and Rasmus hasn't?
I actually don't mind him as a number 6 hitter long term (even if I did want to see him in the two hole at first).
Escobar/Lefty/Bautista/Lind/Lawrie/Rasmus/DH or LF/2B/Arencibia will look mighty good next year if even one of those are replaced with a star, like maybe...
Escobar/Reyes/Bautista/Lind/Lawrie/Rasmus/E5/Thames/JPA is still VERY VERY good. And leaves a lot of money for pitchers.

Escobar SS
Thames LF
Bautista RF
Lind 1B
Encarnacion DH
Rasmus CF
Hill 2B
Arencibia C
Lawrie 3B

If the Jays plan to listen to offers about him, too, it also keeps the perception of his value higher than it would be otherwise.
Disappointing to see Hill in front of Lawrie. I hope that doesn't last too long.
