Eric Gordon is looking great in indy summer league
Just to preface i have followed EJ's career since his 8th grade year and watched every Clipper game on LP since he was drafted.
I talked to EJ for a good 20 minutes tonight after his game in indy at IUPUI and the indyproam. He seemed excited to be around all his friends and former IU teammates. He is really working on his game for next year. He wants to get stronger and more durable. He actually choked down the stretch in last nights game which is rare. His team was down 2 with 6 seconds left and they called Iso for him he got in the paint and someone striped him. He had around 25 points at the indy pro am. He is a good kid and a true Hoosier great player better person.
Just like last season EJ didn't settle for jumpers he was attacking. It was a disappointing lost but his play made the night enjoyable.

Re: Eric Gordon is looking great in indy summer league
Props on the update and the videos. I read where EJ mentioned the Indy Pro-Am on Twitter. I'm glad to hear that he's 100% healthy and that the wrist is no longer bothering him. It was also good to hear that he's not really all that high on playing overseas.
He's been out here with the team here and there during the summer working out, but he's always bouncing around and staying busy. From an individual standpoint, I know that he's going to work on his game wherever he is and I fully expect him to be ready when the season begins. He's too dedicated to slack off. From a team standpoint, I would like to see him put in a little bit more work with his teammates though. Even at 22, he's still actually a veteran on the team and one of our 2 best players. I think it's important for he and Blake to lead this team (primarily the younger players) by example and vocally in preparation for the season. Every ounce of success is going to hinge on those 2.
In the video, EJ made mention of having what it takes to become a superstar in this league. I think the only thing that is holding him back is his handles. They improved last season, then he had to deal with injuries to his finger and wrist. You mentioned that he was stripped on the last play, which is something that has happened to him in the NBA quite a bit. It's a goal of his to improve that area of his game. If and when he does become a better ball-handler, then the sky is really the limit for him.

lol not a find I attend a lot of these summer league games. (i am actually standing right next to him in the interview lol)
On his handles they are really good IMO. His only problem is he tries to do to much and gets stuck. I think they can improve but his handles are very good. I agree he does get stripped a lot but that is due to doing to much or just a mistake (which happens to the best of them).
I actually had his mom as my teacher last year. Im not gonna lie we both hated Baron Davis with a passion and was happy he was traded

I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

I actually had his mom as my teacher last year. Im not gonna lie we both hated Baron Davis with a passion and was happy he was traded. That went a long way in keeping EJ a Clipper for now . But he still wants to return home to play for the Pacers some day. I have a lot of people telling me he wants too very soon others say at the end of his career i guess time will tell. His mom wants him to leave LA lol she wants him to go to the Pacers or Bulls.
I think he could stand to tighten up his handles if he wants to become that superstar sg or the future full-time pg that he desires to be. He dribbles off his of his foot a lot as well. It's not a total knock against him. Durant is one of the top 5 (imo) in the league and he needs to improve there as well. We have relied on EJ to become our closer as I'm sure you are aware. He's definitely getting there. For awhile, he was top 2 (if not 1st) in 4th quarter points. He shot a great percentage that was right up there with the frontcourt players, which is very impressive. The only downside was turnovers where he was near the bottom in clutch play.
His mom hated BD? That's hilarious. EJ's and BD's personalities/approaches are total opposites, so I could imagine it being like water and oil between the two. I think it would be easy to get along with Baron the person, but the player could be frustrating to deal with when you don't know what to expect at a given time. Gordon seemed to always throw subtle shots at him, which basically fed the speculation that he hated to get frozen out on offense.
As far as playing back home goes, I can totally see the intrigue for him. He lives, eats, breathes and sleeps Indy. They'll likely have the cap space next summer. As long as restricted free-agency remains in the new CBA, then I fully expect us to match if he signs an offer-sheet elsewhere. I would say that would just about guarantee us at least 4 more years with him minimum. If we build a competitive team that can eventually contend, then I could see him staying longer. We finally have some nice building blocks that love their hometowns. They also value winning and our ability to win and possibly compete for some hardware could very well be the determining factor as to whether they stay or move on after their 2nd contract. The pressure is definitely on the FO. The right long-term moves need to be made from here on out.

Ya we both hated BD mostly due to his non caring attitude. But she also didn't like how early in the season they were going to him a lot and he wasn't producing and was out of shape

We both disliked Kaman also for the same reason the guy shoots so much(however he can actually shoot unlike Bdiddy)
I think Deandre is the much better fit for the Clippers a low usage garbage man to pair with Blake. But they were in a bind they couldn't really trade Kaman due to being injured so much.
On EJ's closing ability he wants to take the big shot always has always will. He is still 22 and learning the NBA game give him time. But also there are very few closers in the NBA IMO(i define closer as a guy who can take over a game offensively whenever he wants and normally does in the final 5 minutes)
The Clippers were much more fun to watch last year compared to the previous 2. But to take the next step they need everyone improving and playing more of a team style. So Gordon and Blake don't have to do more than they can. They relied on Blake and EJ way to much last year i hope Aminu steps up but i don't see it in him. I though the Clippers made a mistake with that pick but hopefully Aminu proves me wrong. I do like Eric Bledsoes game but he is a few years away due to still learning the pg position he made tons of rookie mistakes I just hope that improves.
I will say though by far my favorite lineup to watch was ...............
Bledsoe
Gordon
Aminu
Blake
Jordan
They were always hungary and gave good effort unlike some of the vets.

I agree his handles need work. Gordon is my favorite player on the team but I would hold my breathe when he handled the ball late in games, didn't mind him taking the shot just creating the shot. If he works on his handles he is a superstar.... no doubt

Hope it's not too serious. I'm sure there will be enough time for his wrist to heal since there won't be an NBA season anytime soon.

Re: Eric Gordon is looking great in indy summer league
Thanks for keeping us updated nets4nets, it really is much appreciated.
I don't like hearing about a wrist injury, but I did like what I saw out of his handles. Perhaps he is more confident in his ball-handling in the pro-am atmosphere, but it did look better overall. I'd love to see him bring in that swagger type of swagger next season.

It was EJ's right wrist that was injured during the season.

Highlights from the Indy Pro-Am championship game. He dropped 46 points to lead his team to victory.

Even though Blake Griffin is the face of this team, I really want Gordon to shine and hopefully be an All-Star this upcoming year.
Agreed. Especially earlier in the season when Aminu was dropping his 3s. I will say that Aminu does know how to transition during a fast break though.

Welcome to the board LoneyRoy7
I think he's in If he stays healthy and we're in the playoff race. Deron and Carmelo's spots will be up for grabs.
