LeBron working with Hakeem

Post#1 » by zogster » Mon Aug 8, 2011 11:03 pm

Just saw an interview on Sportscenter with LeBron, they revealed that he was working out with Hakeem this summer. That's great news, hope it translates to a confident post game for LeBron!

Best news I've heard this entire off-season.

The key will be whether he'll be confident enough to actually use the moves/skills he learns in an actual game.

+1

This is GREAT. In my opinion this is the only thing missing to go to another level(he improved his jumpshot the last season). A good post game. And is working with one of the best. I expect very good results...

Jamal Mashburn had a very good post game & I'd like to see Lebron workout with him.

Unguardable, unstoppable, undefeatable.
For a long time it gave me nightmares, witnessing an injustice like that. It’s a constant reminder of just how unfair this world can be.I can still hear them taunting him, Silly Rabbit tricks are for kids.I mean why couldn’t they just give him some cereal?

Polishing post moves and being comfortable enough to use them in games isn't the same thing. I'm not expecting a lot of Post-Bron in this upcoming season (if we have one).
LeBron's NBA Cup MVP is more valuable than either of KD's Finals MVPs. This is the word of the Lord

^ Lebron does have a post game, he's just not comfortable in there all the time. Working with Hakeem won't help define his post game, it'll just make Lebron more "confident" in his abilities down there, so he would be more willing to play down there.

STatistics showed Lebron was the 19th best post scorer last year efficiency-wise. It's all about his inclination to go down there and bang.

Howard, prior to last season, never had a refined post game. ONe summer with Hakeem and he was willing to do business down there.

Lebron adds things to his game every year. Last year was the midrange J. This upcoming season should be the addition of a more "consistent" post game.

Why people thought Lebron wasn't gonna try to improve his game in the off season beyond me. Every one was acting like he is a slacker and that for some reason he doesn't know his weaknesses. These guys know exactly what their weaknesses are and the are hell bent to get better.

Lebron with a polished post game = unstoppable.

every time Kidd was on Lebron in the finals I screamed: "POST HIM UP" or "TAKE IT TO THE LOW BLOCK"
hope he will learn a thing or two from the Dream

I'll stick with what I've been saying for a while now: In order to become more comfortable in the post, he needs to improve his footwork. He has the strength and the ability to finish around the rim and on fadeaways against his man. His only problem is to get himself to a point where can get off a clean shot or make a move to lose his defender. This was, by the way, a problem for him in general. When his incredibly difficult shots weren't falling, which wasn't the case too often, he struggled to create good open shots for himself.
It's kind of ironic that Wade is the one who can get open at any time but is too hesitant/too inconsistent with his shot at times and LeBron is the one who has a ton of confidence in his shot and is very consistent with it but struggles to create good looks for him at times.

“I’m optimistic that we will have a season this year,” James said. “Very optimistic.”

A little anxious, too.

He’s working out twice a day, trying to erase some of the sting that’s still there after the Heat lost to the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA finals.

“Right now I’ve just been focusing on being a better player, working on my game every single day,” James said at a news conference before the AP interview. “Like I said, the Dallas Mavericks were a great team and they deserved to win that championship. And I’ll just use that as motivation coming into this season.”

He’s also trying to deliver on his vow to be even better whenever the Heat resume play, saying he’s been in Houston at times this offseason to learn post play from one of the game’s all-time greats, former Rockets star Hakeem Olajuwon.

“I look at what he was able to do throughout his career,” James said. “Unbelievable talent. Multiple champion. Just to see how he was able to dominate in the low post, for me as an individual, I just try to look at some of the things I feel I need to get better at and hit home at it. Our team becomes better if I continue to get better and that’s what it’s about.”

Precisely. Olajuwon didn't discover basketball until he was about 15 or 16. But because he played soccer as a kid he already possessed a foundation of incredible footwork, which wound up helping him both offensively and defensively.

That footwork, combined with his agility/athleticism, was the main reason Olajuwon went from being a raw 16-year old with limited basketball skills to the #1 pick in the draft five short years after his introduction to the game. Not to mention all those workouts and summertime scrimmages against Moses Malone when he was in college.

Hakeem should be working with Bosh, Joel, and Pittman as well.
