Re: OT: soccer thread
Yeah I'm not going to deny he's played badly thus far, but I like that the majority of people recognize the value he can bring to the team (even Jurgen commented on it at the half).
I have faith that if he gets back into his natural place (the middle) and gets a steady diet of minutes, then we'll really see him pick up the play

Re: OT: soccer thread
Agudelo in for Buddle and Shea in for Jones. Shea moves out left and Torres takes Jones' spot inside. Won't be surprised to see one of the mids move up more and more as the game progresses.

Re: OT: soccer thread
Robbie Rogers comes in and scores on his first touch after a fantastic play from Agudelo followed by an even better pass from Shea.
These youngsters are really looking solid and play with a tonnn of pace.
p.s. Shea is HUGE. He shed three defenders on that pass. What is he, 6'4 200lb?

Re: OT: soccer thread
swedd you know i am totally on board the torres bandwagon with you. i think we were two if the first members a few years ago. torres, like adu, just needs a chance and needs to be put in the right spots. they are unlike anything else we have.
and im totally digging shea. and i have been a fan of agudelo for a while.
this ref not giving us anything in the box.

Re: OT: soccer thread
I don't really remember anybody else other than the two of us even mentioning Torres as a vital piece of the puzzle, and that's completely fine by me because I'm sure he'll surprise a lot of people. I hadn't heard much about Shea until the Jurgen hire, but I'm very, VERY quickly becoming a fan. He's been all over that Mexican defense this half. His size will be a huge benefit to the team.
Castillo has done worse this half, I was expecting more from him but I'll attribute it to nerves until I see some more from him. His speed is definitely something i like.
Agudelo (92), Adu (89), Altidore (89), Rogers (87), and Torres (87) are shaping up to be one hell of a forward unit for the next couple of WCs
And that was an obvious red card if I've ever seen one. We've had 2 PKs and one Red taken from us tonight. We should have at least another goal on the scoreboard

Re: OT: soccer thread
1-1
at least the bleeding has stopped. great second half. defense looked solid. orozco was good. shea was a difference maker on the left. he has been a monster in the mls this season...... from what ive read and highlights. rogers looked much better tonight than he did in gold cup. and donovan was great at the end. wow. i thought castilla was better in the 2nd. i want to see more.
dos santos was a non-factor.
bad officiating just always makes you so angry. pity.
landon - "maybe the ref wasnt up to speed tonight" (says with a grin) he was being polite.

Re: OT: soccer thread
So how did you guys liked Klinsmann's coaching?
Was there already any difference in style of play compared to Bradley?
Anyways, we've beaten Brazil for the first time since 1993, thanks to goals by Schweinsteiger(pen), Goetze and Schuerrle. We pretty much dominated the whole game and Brazil played very defensively, but still managed two goals to make it a 3-2 win for us.
Though, to bad the guy from my team(Marco Reus), didn't get his first game for the NT.

the first half of the game really seemed just like old times under bradley. we started in 4-2-3-1 with two defensive mids and michael bradley playing the cam role. so really, 3 defensive mids. plus torres out wide who is more of a cam. it didnt work.... at all. 2nd half was much much better. he moved torres to the middle and brought in some wingers and moved bradley back. he definitely is way more enthusiastic. i think he and bradley are polar opposites in terms of demeanor. so its refreshing to see something new.
great job vs brazil. ive watched brazil maybe 3-4 times the WC and every time they are underwhelming (except when they beat the US last summer). something isnt right on that team.

Re: OT: soccer thread
Seems like the old "Klinsi", who's always into the games.
I've also heard that he's interested to play a more attacking style of football with you guys.
BTW: What Bundesliga games will you be able to watch this weekend?
I've just read on ESPN.com that they'll show the Gladbach - Stuttgart(12:30 pm ET) game on Saturday. Will you be able to watch this one as well?
Or will they show something like the Bayern at Wolfsburg game?

I gotta say, it feels good to be a fan of a couple of teams with a fair amount of "haters"
So refreshing after becoming a Bobcats fan

Re: OT: soccer thread
Should be interesting to see what Arsenal will do with all that money, especially if they'll sell Nasri as well.
Of course, Wenger could stay to course and integrate some more of those 16 year olds like he always does, but I doubt the fans will give him any time, if they don't get results, and they should buy some guys.
One of the rumored ones is Eden Hazard of OSC Lille.
BTW: My club keeps playing as well as they have during the final games of last season and we're now, at least for a couple of hours, first place in the Bundesliga.
Our results so far have been:
Bayern - Gladbach 0-1
Gladbach - Stuttgart 1-1
Gladbach - Wolfsburg 4-1
We could've scored a couple more against Wolfsburg, but I'll take the 4-1 victory.
Here's the best of those four goals.
