OT Why Aren't more NBA players going to Spain

Post#1 » by KingLakers » Sat Jul 16, 2011 9:52 pm

Every time I read something about Euro basketball it always says Spain has the best and most organized pro league outside the NBA.Wouldn't it be smarter for guys like Deron or Kobe to sign with a Spanish team. Especially Kobe who's teammate is Pau and if he calls Barcelona they'll probably open up a spot for him on the team in a second.

I think the league just ended like a month ago. Rubio came to Minnesota right after the finals.

The Spanish season starts in October and ended in May which was when the most recent game was.

Not sure where you got that from, the official Barcelona website indicates that the last game ended on June 14th.

May might have been the end of the regular season.

I'm spanish.

Spain has the best league in Europe. The diference between Turkey or China is that the owners have no the money that in this countries have. It's a more serious league. They don't like to sign a player who doesn't know how many months will be here. They prefer to build a team.

Everybody likes player like Kobe or Deron but this will cost a lot of money and doesn't bring enough guarantees to be a good team.

yeah, from the reports i've read from mainstream writers like woj, teams in spain aren't interested in rent-a-players.

The Spanish league is sold out virtually every game. They don't need NBA players. Their arenas are full.

But Pau and Kobe over there would be awesome. Kobe is such a student of the game I would love to see him bring back a hybrid of the best NBA and best Euro teamwork style to the Lakers.
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

With Billy Hunter saying the season is likely lost and i know it could be a negotiating ploy I think Kobe and Pau should go to Barcelona and maybe take Lamar with them. E Network would love to film Lamars reality show in Spain.

 Lamar shouldn't be worrying about filming a reality show, while trying to play basketball. But if that means getting it out of the way now, instead of during the season (if the lockout is lifted), I'm all for it.

A) The difference between NBA players and ACB players is not that big, paying a superstar to play for your team does not guarantee you success.
B) No spanish team is willing to include a termination clause in case the lockout is over before the end of the season. The ACB is a serious bbal league.
C) No spanish teams are owned by multimillionaires willing to pay both the contract and the corresponding insurance to bring over NBA superstars.

Clear?
