The Toronto Blue Jays inked four draft picks Friday, but top selection Tyler Beede remains unsigned.

The club agreed to terms with outfielder Jacob Anderson, the 35th overall pick at June's amateur draft.

Toronto also signed right-handed pitcher and fourth-round pick Thomas Robson of Delta, B.C.

Also agreeing were right-hander Brady Dragmire (17th round) and outfielder Derrick Loveless (27th round).

The Blue Jays took a chance by selecting Beede with the 21st pick at the draft. The six-foot-four, 200-pound right-hander out of Lawrence Academy in Massachusetts had already committed to play baseball at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.

The deadline for draft picks to sign with the major league clubs is Monday.

With Friday's signings, the Jays have agreed to terms with 27 players from this year's draft.

My understanding is the Jays didn't send a formal offer to Mcguire until 10:30 pm on deadline day

Stilson was a great draft pick. Any time you can get a top 30 player in the 3rd round because of an injury concern it's solid. I'm glad that we signed him.

Stilson for $500k is fantastic, really. There's still significant danger that his shoulder won't hold up, but at that price there's very little risk...if not for the injury scare he'd have signed for four times that, and I'm guessing that there are a bunch of teams kicking themselves for passing him up in the second round, in expectation that it would cost $1m+.

The Blue Jays announced in a press release that the club has agreed to terms with three right-handers: third-round pick John Stilson, sixth-round pick Anthony Desclafani, and eighth-round pick Matt Biggs.

A source indicated to MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo early in the week that Beede and the Blue Jays were not close in contract negotiations. Beede seemed to echo those statements to his local newspaper on Friday.

"We'll see if we come to an agreement, but right now it looks like school is going to be the choice," Beede told the Worcester Telegram and Gazette.

Agree with you, and yes. @BringVottoHome: Dwight Smith Jr. seems to be overlooked #BlueJays #mlbdraft pick. Think he signs?

IF we don't sign Beede, norris or cromer, what would you think of our draft haul this year?

If worse comes to worse...

I'd ask everyone who is an apologist for the team's low MLB payroll to reconsider their argument. One outcome of the low MLB payroll was all of the money supposedly to be ploughed into overslot draft contracts. If the worst signing outcome occurs, I'd say the Rogers beancounters have a better Save percentage than any Blue Jay reliever, ever.

But I remain hopeful of signing a couple of these guys.

Nobody here is an apologist for Rogers but a lot of us see that they re going in the right direction and spending money when they need to. A lot of this is just posturing. We ll see after the deadline.

If we don't sign all 3 it still wouldn't be a bad draft. It likely means we got Wiper, Dean, Suarez, Norwood, Lopes and others as the back up plans. Dean, Wiper were 1st round/supp. talents that drop because of bonus demands. We already have Anderson/Stilson/Texas Scrabble etc while getting guys Biggs, Desclafani (apparently wanted supp. money), Loveless, Dragmire overslot.

Obviously if we get all these guys signed with the reported $20mill budget it would be like the best draft ever..

I hope we have more than a 20 mill budget, as beede/norris both probably want 3mill, most of our highschool picks will want at least 1 mill like dean, lopes, chin so I think we'd exceed 20 if we signed the majority of them

That's awesome, was hoping he gets signed. Any idea how much it cost?

We're not spending that much money. That would completely obliterate the current draft record by about $8 million...thats simply not happening in one year.

Return to Toronto Blue Jays
