I never thought, in 2011, I would be upset that John McDonald is not starting at 2B for the Jays. Hill is done, toast, finished, FUBAR, etc. I know he is a vet and all, but time to pull the plug and give Johnny Mac everyday AB's. Or hell, call up Hech and have him play 2B for all I care. I just can't stand Hill.

Otherwise, good to see Lawrie out of the 9th spot. Just swap JPA and HIll (and replace Hill with McDonald) and that's about as good a lineup Farrell can put out there with what he has.

Excited to see Alvarez pitch against Pineda. Hope we can get the win! As an aside, we might as well give Hill the next two months to see whether he can turn it around. Mac is not going to be an everyday option next year. If Hill keeps up his current play than we can look to bring someone to play 2B next year.

What I don't understand is how they say we keep hill in the lineup because he's a veteran and we respect him... JMAC IS A VET AND PLAYS BETTER... show HIM some respect SMH

I really hope that what's happening to Aaron Hill's career doesn't happen to Sidney Crosby's.

If Hill continues to perform at an abysmal level, we should consider put him on the DL. That way he can have time to work out whatever the hell is wrong with him, and we can really see our future out there. Also Farrell can't call him up to screw over anything since he won't be eligible to return.

I'm not ashamed to say that I like that we're playing Hill and keeping the option of him returning open. He needs to look better and show something statistically significant if we are to welcome him back as starter though.

I am not arguing that there is no merit in playing Hill, but as a fan, it's hard to watch.

You know what it's sad, but it's not even really close between Hill and McDonald over the past two years. McDonald's managed to put up 2 WAR in that period of time between 120 games or so. He's been better on both sides. Hill's put up half of that while playing about twice as many games.

I was double checking your numbers because 2 WAR in 120 games for McDonald seemed really high to me, and unless you have a reason to love TotalZone over UZR, it is.

The numbers at Fangraphs are more like 1.2 WAR to 0.8 WAR, which i still a huge advantage given that McDonald played half the games of Hill. At 2.5 WAR/150 games McDonald should be playing everyday on a bunch of teams; at 1.5 WAR/150 he's a decent bench player.

There are a couple differences between Fangraphs and B-R WARs, but normally when the numbers are this far off it is because of D. JMac is treated considerably better by TZ, but TZ is a far more simplistic measure than UZR - it was partially created to measure defense in seasons the data for UZR doesn't exist for.
