Where Khan Messed up..No deadly 3pt shooters
Khan wants to follow in the foot steps of the great seven seconds or less Suns teams, that got up and down the court..ran the ball and IMPORTANTLY knocked down the 3.
Steve Nash has always been surrounded by guys who could drain the outside shot. In their heyday the Suns were knocking down around 800 three pointers per year at a clip of around 40%..Outstanding shooting.
Unfortunately, this Wolves roster is not made for that kind of output. The Wolves only made 589 3 pointers last year..at 37%...
Let's compare the top 3 point shooters from the Suns team and The Wolves of last year..
Wesley Johnson 103-289 36%
Kevin Love 88 -211 42%
Luke Ridnour 81-184 44%
Mike Beasley 60-164 36%
The 2007 PHO Suns
Raja Bell 205-496 41%
Barbosa 190-438 43%
Nash 156-343 46%
J. Jones 90- 238 38%
Khan wants to run and gun. Unfortunately his roster consists of players who can run, but he forgot about the GUN.

This team was the 5th best 3-point shooting team (by percentage) in the league last year. They were only 0.1% worse than Phoenix and only 2.1% worse than 1st place San Antonio. And all of that was without a Steve Nash (or even a pass first PG for that matter).

Yep, and the OP left out arguably the two best pure shooters on the roster in Martell Webster and Wayne Ellington. Derrick Williams shouldn't count for nothing either. The subtraction of Corey Brewer only helps the %'s too.

Yea, they shot a high percentage, but they took far fewer attempts than the teams above them..and made far fewer.
San Antonio made 687 three pointers on the year. GSW 685, Denver 662,
Orlando 770, Phoenix 701, Minny 589.

We also didn't play near the pace of uptempo transition ball that those teams played.

Re: Where Khan Messed up..No deadly 3pt shooters
The volume of 3s argument has a lot to do with Rambis' system. He undervalued the shot but that doesn't mean the team isn't full of solid gunners. If Rubio pans out, running pick and rolls all day long with Love/Williams/Randolph would force the defense to pack the middle and open up the outside for the 3 pt shot. All the shooters just hang at the 3pt line and let the playmakers make the plays for them while they bomb away.

These arguments just come out of the woodwork huh? The man's made some arguable mistakes one could define as a "mess up", but not having 3 point shooters is hardly on the list.

I think our bigger problem is everything that occurs within the 3 point line.

I think that the biggest problem is how many threes that other teams make when they're playing the Wolves.

+ googol
Also, did Kahn even say he wants to follow the exact blueprint of the Suns? Maybe he did and I missed it but I just remember him saying uptempo, open-court style. The Suns are just one example of that.

Actually the Wolves had the highest Pace of any team in the league last year. Numero uno.
http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/MIN/2011.html
1565 (3PA)/7014(FGA) 22% of the Wolves shots came from three point attempts.
Compared to San Antionio (14th in pace), 1727/6628 = 26% of their FGA were 3 pointers

Re: Where Khan Messed up..No deadly 3pt shooters
So who are these world class gunners that Wolves have?
By far their best three point shooter is Luke Ridnour who we expect to get far diminished playing time.
Martell Webster is probably the best volume shooter, but he's never made more than 124 in a season.

Dude, the Wolves are loaded with shooters. Just because they won't make 800 of them in a season doesn't mean anything. Those Suns teams were an aberration. Check out the early decade Kings to make your expectations more realistic.

We have enough players who can shoot the 3 pointer well enough that they can't be left open on the 3pt line.
We have far worse deficits than the 3pt shot. We are actually a solid team from downtown.

Read what I wrote again. I was referring to the transition game.
Maybe better, can the players in Minnesota play well in Minnesota’s style.
Our first instinct is to say no, especially considering that they had the fastest pace in the league (96.5 possessions per game, according to Basketball Reference), but only posted the 24th highest offensive rating(104.2 points per 100 possessions). However, looking at the numbers, the Timberwolves didn’t actually get out in transition as much as you would original believe. According to Synergy Sports, transition possessions made up 10.7% of Minnesota’s offense, a number that was good for 23rd in the NBA. So how was their pace so high? Bad shots early in the clock and turnovers.

And Klomp comes off the top rope with an elbow drop!
Seriously the idea that the Wolves don't have enough 3pt shooters is ridiculous. Their percentages show they can definitely shoot the three. The number they make shows the offense they ran didn't provide them the opportunties.
Clearly this comes back to the system and coaching.
If your statement is that the Wolves need to make more threes to to be successful, then the complaint should be that "Khan" messed up by hiring the wrong coach who put in a faulty offense that didn't provide the opportunity for the Wolves' great shooters to knock down more threes.
Faulty logic original poster, faulty logic.
