Re: Training Camp Thread
Kind of an awkward time for a team to trade for a starting QB. Three weeks before the season starts -- I can't see it happening.

Not saying it would ever happen, but Irsay tweeted asking fans who they should sign. Sounds like Manning wont' be ready for the season opener.

Re: Training Camp Thread
I'd think they'd still go with Painter for however long Manning's out, no? They're not going to sign some guy off the street to start for them (or trade a high draft pick for a starter).
Who's even out there for them to sign? Coax Bulger out of retirement? Sorgi? Pennington?

Damn I was hoping Manning would break all of Brint's records including the streak.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Why would any team trade for him this year at this point in the season? He'd have two weeks to the opener to learn the offense and connect with the WR and you can sign him next year.
If TT wanted to or found the deal he liked, he would of made it at the start of pre season, but not now.

I squandered an asset? Then Hammond taught me well.

Not gonna happen. I really don't see a team trading this far into the season knowing they can just pick him up next year.

Re: Training Camp Thread
The lockout kind of screwed us in terms of trading Flynn. It's too late now unless a starter goes down in the next week and even then it may be too late.

Yep. That ship has sailed unfortunately. The lockout screwed us a little bit as players weren't allowed to be traded during the draft, and Ted has said before, he is not very comfortable with trading for picks in future drafts as you never know where those picks are gonna end up. Sucks. I don't think Flynn has pro bowl potential but would be nice to get a second for him.
They were talking a few days ago on green and gold today, and I disagree but have been proven wrong many times by TT already, that the front office truly believes that if Rodgers went down Flynn could win them a super bowl with this roster. If true I suppose he's worth keeping, though I look at Philly in a similar scenario and think they absolutely hit a home run with the Kolb deal, even if Vick goes down and they don't win it all this year.

Re: Training Camp Thread
They said Cobbs was a knee bruise right? It seems like the Pack has had a lot of nicked up injuries, but as of right now nobody is ruled out for the opener right? Hopefully we are getting these out of the way early.
Of all the injuries so far, Neal has me the most concerned by far. We really can't afford injuries on the DL.

Re: Training Camp Thread
It's going to be really interesting to see what happens for the cuts on offense. I agree with those that think Q. Johnson is likely gone. I have to think Harrell is probably a lock to make the team since I doubt he clears waivers to make it to the practice squad after his preseason performance. It then comes down to WR vs. TE, and how many we keep. You're looking at anywhere between 9-11 guys there, with West and Crabtree as the bubble guys. It seems that most the Packer writers think Taylor is a lock.

They are the Super Bowl champions. Nearly every starter has returned. There has been no training camp drama to speak of. So what is getting the Green Bay Packers excited these days? For one thing, a part-time defensive alignment that moves one of their top players a few feet to his right or left, depending on the offensive look.
As Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel first detailed a few weeks ago, the Packers have adjusted their "eagle" defensive package to feature B.J. Raji in the most prominent playmaking position, the one previously held by now-departed Cullen Jenkins. In the formation, Raji lines up over the guard on the weak side, similar to the "three-technique" position he played at Boston College and the same held by NFC North playmakers Ndamukong Suh and Kevin Williams in their teams' 4-3 scheme.
Ryan Pickett serves as the nose tackle in the eagle formation, and the Packers' other defensive end -- Mike Neal, C.J. Wilson or perhaps Jarius Wynn -- line up over the strong-side tackle.
The Packers' idea is to give them a look that maximizes Raji's quickness and playmaking ability. But before you get too crazy excited about it, keep in mind that the Packers have most recently spent the majority of their time in the nickel scheme that includes only two defensive linemen. Last year, according to ESPN Stats & Information, the Packers had five defensive backs on the field nearly 75 percent of their plays.
Also, keep in mind that the Packers they are still running their 3-4 alignment out of the traditional "okie" alignment as well, with both ends over the tackle and Raji at nose tackle. So based on last year's numbers, at least, we're talking about a change that could impact up to 125 plays over 16 games, or eight per game.
It's worth noting, however, that the Packers spent significantly more time in the 3-4 during Saturday's preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals. In re-watching the first three series alone, I counted 14 instances. On eight of them, Pickett was lined up at nose tackle. Raji lined up there on the rest of those plays.
I'm all for doing whatever it takes to get Raji into the backfield as often as possible. If that means shading him over the guard rather than head-up on the center, that's fine with me.
The Cardinals' typically vanilla preseason game plan gave defensive coordinator Dom Capers plenty of opportunities to experiment with his base defense. For me, it will get really interesting if opposing offenses find ways to get the Packers out of the nickel scheme that Capers clearly favors for play-making purposes. If they can, the new eagle package will impact a lot more than eight plays per game.

Luke23, best avatar ever.
Glad to see Lang sticking at left guard. I really hate how they try to shuffle guys along the line so much. I just don't fathom how a guy could ever get comfortable in a position when he's constantly moving around. Im pretty sure its a huge reason colledge never developed, and I'm fearful it might hinder Sherrod moving forward.
