Yanks seem to be in the market for another lefty reliever. Good idea. I fear the team may be past that point because EVERY team studies the Yanks movements so it's not like you can ever catch people off guard.

Makes me wonder...In 2008, Marte' and Nady were acquired by trading Tabata, Ohlendorf, Karstens, McCutchen (other one)... so pleased was Cashman with the way Marte' sorta handled Ortiz that he declined his option but rewarded him with a three year deal 12M with a club fourth option. After a 9.45 ERA that should have raised flags earlier...Marte' delivered the worth of his contract in 2009...

He missed all of last year and will all of this year.

Tough call. Sure, for one post season moment, does that justify the length of the contract and amount plus prospects lost? How do you value specialty spending? Now, when people blab all this B.S. about trading prospects and overspending...this is what goes under the radar.

I don't think you're going to find that lefty gem this late in the season considering it's a highly valued commodity for all playoff teams. If this regime is preaching "fiscal responsibility..." then it shouldn't be THAT hard to find the next Phil Coke in the farm...or maybe it's too late?
