I was scared as SH*T! We were in our classroom at school, and then the school started shaking! I ran out the school as fast as I could!

Indeed, that was truly frightening. It's amazing the thoughts that fly through your mind when something like that is happening. I was in an office building downtown.

Needless to say, I'm that guy you can't rely on when it comes to something like this. I grabbed my stuff and hauled ass, even elbowed a co-worker in the back on the way out. I apologized.

Several of my co-workers did the same thing. It created a traffic jam at the door. By the time they got outside, the quake was over.

Okay guys, what Rafael isn't tell you (this is true) is that he pushed some 63-year-old woman out of the way as he was ditching the building. #NotGentlemanly.

Meh, I hate to sound like an earthquake snob but when I lived in Japan, earthquakes about this strength rolled thru all the time. It's not something worth worrying about unless things start falling off of the walls. And when that happens, *NEVER RUN OUTSIDE* unless your building is surrounded by a field or pasture. Get under your desk or in a small bathroom/closet where nothing can fall on your head.

Pine - she is 64.Every man for themselves in this situation, she would have done the same thing if she had a chance.

What? It's not like she got hurt. I merely made it known that I wanted to get the heck out of there, that's all. She's fine, we all had a good laugh about it today.

64? What's she still doing working? DC must be slipping - she's about 10 years too late for retirement....

FWIW, no kidding - my Dad was a Federal govt. employee and retired at 53. He's definitely enjoyed the past 26 years....

fancy schmancy steel structures i'm sure. not the stone/mortar buildings that DC has to work with, unless raff is talking about those newfangled highrises in Clarenden/Ballston...

Nope, I work in DC. This building is old as dirt even though they've renovated it. I'm pretty sure its not earthquake proof but what do I know. I ran out as soon as I felt the 2nd shake. A co-worker told me that I had apparently yelled "save yourselves" I'm not really sure where that came from...it was all just a blur...

There are no earthquake-proof building in DC, if this happens a few more times, there is going to be some damage.

I had almost zero reaction to the quake yesterday. I was like "wow, an earthquake" to myself but just kept working at my desk. Must be the beta blockers. LOL

FYI - I'm one of the two emergency "floor wardens" for my department. I'm thinking that might not be a good job for me. LOL

so you're essentially a mod at work too?

i didn't have too much of a reaction either. i thought it was heavy construction at first. then when the building started to shake, i thought maybe a bomb? but i was far enough from the blast radius that i was relatively safe. someone SAID "earthquake" and i thought "pschhhh. no wayyyyyy..."

I was driving on Rockville Pike to get some late lunch when it happened. I saw the ground shaking and at first I thought it was a truck or something rumbling by, but saw no truck. After that I saw the trees swaying and knew it was an earthquake. Some cars stopped in the middle of the road but I just kept going to Noodles and Co, LOL.

Latest hurricane models do not look good for the DC/MD/VA area. This is shaping up to be a terrible weekend for this area.

This forum has seen its ups and downs and lots of changes over the years.

One change that I don't like is this:

-- We had a significant weather event unfold over the last week, and not a single peep from Ji.

:sigh:

I miss him.
