Type A is great news only IF our aim is to resign Johnson because we're gonna be the only team that can sign him without giving up any pick. 15 other teams can sign him by only giving up a 2nd rounder.

But we're trying to get picks for him, the Type A status only hurts us.

Type A status certainly hurts him, but I'm not sure that it hurts us. Surely somebody will sign him? I can't imagining him being forced out of MLB already.

What's the deadline for him to be signed in order for us to still get picks? Spring Training? The Draft? Anytime?

Whats the likelihood of him actually being in a Jays uniform next year?

I was thinking the same thing. I'm going to look up Roberts right now.

A question about trading after the deadline.

Does this mean that Johnson, Hill and McDonald all cleared waivers with no team claiming them at some point after Aug 1? If this is the case, why didn't another team claim any of them?

I think you're confused with the waiver trade deadline a little bit which happens to everyone but simply put, nobody else wanted them. Hill is the worst 2nd baseman in the league offensively and most contending teams had a better hitting shortstop than Macdonald, except obviously Arizona.

Pretty sure this means no teams lower in the standings than Arizona claimed them but they were claimed by Arizone and a trade was worked out.
