I’ve been talking to Shaquille Cleare and the Harrison Twins and they’re being recruited hard by Maryland. They talk about how cool it would be to go to a place like Maryland and raise them up to a championship level.”
Villanova Captain Isaiah Armwood Transferring, Maryland "In the Mix"
It's been a few days without any big basketball news, so this is right on cue: former Montrose Christian star and current Villanova Wildcats forward Isaiah Armwood is transferring, and Maryland might be interested. (h/t JWKTerp)
Sources told CBSSports.com that schools in the mix for Armwood are Maryland, Iowa, Texas Tech and George Washington. Armwood grew up near Maryland and GW and both Iowa and Texas Tech have former Villanova assistant coaches - Andrew Francis (Iowa) and Chris Walker (Texas Tech).
Armwood is a former four-star and was part of a loaded DC-area 2009 HS class, which included Mouphtaou Yarou, Dante Taylor, and a few other players that didn't end up at Maryland. (Gary Williams landed Jordan Williams instead.) While he's yet to live up to his billing - averaging only 2.5 ppg as a sophomore last year - he did play 17 minutes per game for a pretty good (at times) team (and possessed pretty high OReb% and Blk% rates). But he was obviously a clubhouse leader: he was Villanova's captain for the upcoming year.
More importantly, he's 6-8 and talented. Wright says he was a starter during the Wildcats' overseas trip. Recruiting prospects be damned: Maryland isn't in the position to turn down that proposition. He's a combo forward, hovering in between the 3 and the 4 much like Amile Jefferson, but size is size. (Also, I'd love be able to call a player on Maryland "Zeke.")

Robert Carter has cut his list to Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Maryland, and Rhode Island, according to Scout
Coach Aaron Harrison of the Houston Defenders comments on Shaq:
“Shaq is just getting back from the Bahamas today (even though school has begun at the Village School) and I am sure he and his family will be making his visit to Maryland soon. It’s always been his #1 school, and I’m not aware of any other schools he is seriously considering

The Maryland men's basketball program landed a commitment today from Shaquille Cleare, according to Scout.com.
Cleare, a 6-foot-9, 285-pound center from The Village School in Houston, picked the Terps over offers from Arizona, Baylor, Miami, South Florida, Texas and Texas A&M, among others.
Cleare, a four-star prospect and the No. 29 prospect in the 2012 class according to Rivals.com, told Recruiting Report in June that “there’s a good chance I’m going to [Maryland]. They’re No. 1 on my list right now.”
ESPN.com’s scouting report says Cleare “is a big body post with off the charts upside. He has good hands, light feet and excellent touch around the basket. Cleare uses his strength to power the ball to the rim with drops steps on both sides of the lane.”
Maryland is also involved with at least three of Cleare's Houston Defenders AAU teammates: point guard Andrew Harrison, shooting guard Aaron Harrison and shooting guard Christian Sanders. The Harrison twins are consensus Top 10 prospects for the 2013 class.
Cleare joins Fredericksburg (Va.) Christian guard Seth Allen as part of Maryland’s 2012 recruiting class. The Terps could give up to five more scholarships in this class.
With Cleare in the fold, it seems possible that Maryland Coach Mark Turgeon and his staff could be on the verge of adding commitments from some of the other top prospects they have been recruiting.
“I think so,” Harvey said. “I think a lot of guys were waiting on him. By him going ahead and getting it over with, I think you’ll see some of the other guys start to fall and go that way as well.”
Maryland began recruiting Cleare early in the process, with former coach Gary Williams and his staff making inroads.
“He fell in love with Gary Williams and when Gary Williams left, Shaq was devastated,” Harvey said. “What pulled Shaq to Gary Williams was his ability to put players at the next level. But the school that was next on his list was [Texas] A&M and we know how that ended up. They hired Turgeon and Maryland was even higher on his list.”

I like Terry Henderson, Maryland could probably land him if they recruit him hard. His jump shot is going to make him a weapon on the college level.
Watched the Harrisons and Nate Britt play on ESPN a few weeks ago. If they end up at UMD their going to be a really good team.
I'd rather Maryland end up with Prince Ibeh than Mitch McGary. Ibeh could be good if he has some solid coaching.

I like Ibeh....but not like McGary.
McGary planning another visit to MD
I know some of us have been sweating the fact that McGary's Summer visit to MD could fade after he takes his upcoming visits to UK, Mich, UNC and Duke, but according to Dave Telep, he's planning to take an official visit to College Park once those are done:
McGary visited Florida in August and Maryland in June; he plans on taking officials to both.
Per Telep, he would also like to take an official to UK (the one coming up is just an unofficial), but for those of you counting at home, that would be 6, so someone is going to get left out.
