And we need a CM--either a DM style, to allow Wilshere to move into an attack position, or a creative CAM. I'm a fan of Alan Dzagoev, who seems like he'd be a typical Arsenal signing.

Also I think the need for CB is a bit overstated. We only need depth behind Vermaelen and Koscielny, who are a good enough starting pair.

Agree with everything you've said, but I think if we don't sign anyone we'll be fighting - if healthy - to finish 6th.

SlavaMedvedenko wrote:Liverpool already lodged a bid, if Wenger offers 6 mil, I'm pretty sure Redknapp would like to get involved or may be even City is looking for a central defender. His contract expires at the end of next season, so they still have 2 more transfer windows to get something for him.

Its more ridiculous considering that Bolton bought him for 5 mil in 2008 before he was even proven in the league and now has a 17 mil release clause on his contract.

Lastly please do not compare him to Clichy, Arsenal fans thought it was addition by subtraction when he left.

His contract expires at end of this season and not next. Clichy is a French international, who played champions league football for one of the top clubs in Eurpoe. If anything I would argue that Clichy is worth more than Cahill. Liverpool have not lodged a bid, as they are close to signing Uruguayn defender. Like i said, In my opinion it was a fair bid.

Almunia was the starting goal keeper for a champions league team but you won't see anyone paying 2 cents for his services. Even Arsenal blogs are roasting this offer right now.

I think our current squad is very very good, just lacking in depth. Liverpool and Spurs won't measure up when we get all our guys back. I have no idea why everyone is so high on Liverpool--they have one fantastic player who is the sole reason for all four of their EPL points (Suarez), and an absurdly expensive collection of B or B+ talent. Can Suarez keep it up all season long after such a busy summer?

12 months left on the contract or not, his value must surely be above 6M because Arsenal needs him NOW and Bolton can simply sell him for a similar amount to a desperate club in January. If Arsenal don't get him this season, they are never gonna get him. City, Liverpool or Chelsea can offer him better terms should be go for free next year.

Unfortunately the same could be said about Arsenal IMO.

Carroll/Suarez/Kuyt
Gerrard/Adam/Lucas/Meireles/Downing/Henderson/Maxi
Carragher/Agger/Coates(possibly)/Johnson/Enrique/Flanagen/Skrtel
Reina

RVP/Gervinho/Walcott/Chamakh/Arshavin
Wilshere/Ramsey/Song/Diaby/Frimpong/Rosicky/AOC/Ryo
Vermaelen/Kos/Djourou/Squillaci/Sagna/Gibbs
Szczęsny

I think on paper Liverpool's just as good if not better.

None of the guys you are getting back are better than Gerrard, so the same can be said about Liverpool. Liverpool are better than Arsenal as of right now. Until Nasri and Cesc are replaced I don't know how anyone can say Arsenal are better. And no Suarez isn't the only reason. Our defenders (except for Flanagan) have played well early in the season. This is deepest, youngest team Liverpool has had in years.

Spurs in talks with Scott Parker. If they sign him and Modric stays, very solid lineup on paper.

Cahill> Clichy, but no way is he worth 20 mil in the last year of his deal.
I wouldn't go above 12 for him. I thought we did well getting 7 for Clichy, and very well to get what we got for Nasri on the last year of his deal.

I don't think Liverpool is better than a healthy Arsenal lineup right now, but we're not healthy, and with the suspensions they're definitely able to field a better squad than us.

I still think we'll sign 2 or 3 players before the windows done.

Wilshere was better than Gerrard last year, by a fair bit.

Much different set of circumstances. A fit Gerrard is still a versatile world class midfielder. A fit Wilshire is not quite there yet.

BBC reporting that Park Chu-Young is on his way to London for a medical at Arsenal. Not the earth-shaking signing Gooners were hoping for, I will assume.

As a fervent supporter of the Korean National Team, I am happy that Park Chu Young will be getting time with Arsenal.

As an Arsenal fan, I'm not too pleased. He lacks goal scoring prowess and plays more so as a shadow striker/support striker for the KNT - even on a team bereft of goal scoring talent. And really, I don't know if he has enough talent to be able to stick in the EPL. He's also 26 and quite removed from his developmental years, so not much left to grow.

I'm hoping this signing works out but I'm not very optimistic about his time with Arsenal.

tbf that's the role RVP plays and Chamakh is best at, so seemingly a fit. Arsene has moved from playing Rosicky, Arshavin out wide to faster, more attacking players (Gervinho, Ox, Ryo) so it fits to have CF's that drop deeper to play the pass.

But that's what I mean though, RvP and Chamakh play that role so will he even get any burn? And really, from all I've seen I don't think he has the physicality to stick in the CF position in the EPL and playing him on the right like they did with Bendtner is not really an option (he's not suited for it)

Robin's always injured and Chamakh's always rubbish. He's 6ft so here's hoping.
