Pittsburg is doing everything to get ready down the stretch, they just acquired Ludwick.

Thoughts and prayers for that Rockies pitcher who got hit in the head by a line drive last night. Had to have neck surgery on his C-1 vertebrae. That was ugly to watch. Really hope the Rookie gets better and can play next year.

Wow! Jared Weaver gets 5 yr and $85 mil. If he pitches like he did this year, might be worth it. But it so often happens that once the big contract gets signed, they slip back into mediocrity.

For what it's worth, some MLB experts said last night that he'd receive $20+ million per season during free agency, but he loved LA, and he gave them a discount.

I saw that. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just dont see him as having this kind of year on a consistent basis for the next 5 years. Just think of him as the kind who lands the big deal and then his game starts to fade. Guess we'll have to see how it pans out.

Jim Thome back to Cleveland. Happy for him and for the Indians. He fits in Cleveland.

Jim Thome is nothing but a classact. I've met him several times and have spoken to him on those occasions. I'm glad to see him back in Cleveland and I hope he keeps hitting the long ball.

Another guy we ended up not acquiring and that is on the DL.
Carlos Quentin is expected to be placed on the disabled list after his ailing left shoulder "didn't respond favorably" when he attempted some dry swings on Friday.
Quentin has been sidelined since last Saturday, so he could return as early as September 6. However, the fact that the White Sox have decided to place him on the disabled list after playing with a short bench for nearly a week must mean he still has a lot of progress to make, as Quentin will now be unavailable for Chicago's critical three-game visit to Detroit that begins on September 2. Alejandro De Aza should continue to man right field in his absence.

I know it's only 1 game. But I can't help but chuckle. Guy signs that huge deal, then promptly goes out and pitches 6 innings, gives up 8 hits and 7 earned runs. Hope he bounces back for the LAA. Otherwise, the pressure will mount up on his shoulders about being paid so much.

That was his second outing since signing the new contract, right? It was also the first time he had pitched on 3-days rest and what a fail it was.

Re: Around The League News And Rumors (Non-Braves)
^^^^^^ You are correct. On 8/24 he pitched a 5 hit shutout vs the White Sox and won 8-0. So he was on his game right after signing the Contract. So 1 up and 1 down after signing. Let's see how he does in the rubber match.

Really happy for Ian Kennedy. He is making a hard charge for NL Cy Young Award. I remember all the doubters when he was a Yankee. They gave up on him a bit and sent him off in the 3 team trade to get Curtis Grandrson. Now Granderson is doing great and is a top contender for POY, so the Yankees did well in the trade. But the Yankess achilles heel is pitching depth. You know they really wish they had kept Kennedy now. We will see how it plays out come the Playoffs.

I'd like to see Ian Kennedy win it. I've enjoyed watching him pitch this season and I expect him to win as long as his ERA starts around 2.90.

Jim Thome hit a HR tonight.
I hope he hits one or two more before the end of the season.

Matt Kemp is someone I have wanted on the Braves for years. He openly said he wants to be a Dodger his entire career. Oh well, it's not like we had an actual shot to acquire him anyway.

Boston lead over the Rays for the AL WC is down to 1/2 game and Boston plays NY again tonight. It will either be 1 or tied. Boston is choking as much if not worse than Atlanta.

Tampa Bay faces NY tonight. This should be good. NY may focus on rest more and not give it 100%.
Boston missing the playoffs could very well be the objective here , so I won't be shocked if NY lays over against Tampa, but we'll see what happens.
