I've been wondering how many NBA players are going to end up injured this summer.

Guh.

On the plus side, this from the link made me chuckle:

Best I can tell from Google Translate on the original Chinese article is that he injured his wrist on a dunk but it didn't bother him at the time. The next morning, his wrist was in pain. They are speculating that it could be broken but that doesn't seem to be based on anything. Sounds iffy to me.

Must have been karma...

Oh well, he has an entire year to get it healed.

This guy has to catch a break sooner or later, right?

His method was goofy and quirky at first, wasting picks on all those PG's but in the end he seems to have gotten it done.

http://www.niubball.com/2011/08/did-michael-beasley-fracture-his-wrist-in-china/

Here’s what we found out, courtesy of NetEase. During the [Intercontinental Basketball Championship's] last game on Monday, Beasley injured his left wrist in what was likely a fracture… …At first, it seemed as if Beasley wasn’t injured at all. However, NetEase has learned that Beasley has very likely fractured his left wrist. According to on-site reports, Beasley participated in a dunk contest after the game was over. Because the wrist was causing him no pain, he thought he had only a very minor injury and went ahead with the contest, throwing down two dunks. But later that night and in the morning when he woke up, the pain increased and the wrist became increasingly difficult to move. So he went to the hospital to see a doctor. Upon his initial assessment, the doctor judged it a likely fracture.

Unbelievably, that was just the end of Beasley’s China misfortunes. According to the same report, he and Pierce both suffered an asthma attack in Shuangyashan. While playing in Shuangyashan, Heilongjiang province… Pierce and Beasley both suffered asthma attacks due to large amounts of fans smoking cigarettes inside the stadium. After the game, things got even more shocking when Beasley fell to the floor in his hotel and started to roll around in obvious pain, scaring everyone around half-to-death. At that point, there was no choice but to dial 120 (the number for an ambulance in China) and take him to the hospital.

Should have dialed 9-1-2... It's 9-1-1 for rich people.

Just saw him walking the Farmers Market in downtown Minneapolis, wearing a Miami Heat hat.

1. Why is he here?
2. Why the Heat hat?
3. He didn't offer any Mary Jane.

* Thanks to a heads-up from my colleague Michael Lee of the Washington Post, Michael Beasley looked fit and good and injury free in a D.C. charity game on Saturday that also featured John Wall and Kevin Durant, among others.

So that means something must have got lost in the translation with those reports out of China a few weeks back that Beasley might have broken his wrist during a post-game dunk contest while on a barnstorming tour there with Boston's Paul Pierce.

"Something wrong with my wrist?" he told Mr. Lee. "Somebody tell me."

So I guess those reports that Beasley had an asthma attack because of smoke in Chinese arenas was wrong, too. I know at least a couple of you Wolves fans had fun with that on Twitter and elsewhere...

From that same article:

* One little tidbit about Timberwolves new assistant coach Bill Bayno.

As I mentioned in last week's post, he is a recovering alcoholic who also had a kind of obsession-compulsive disorder develop when he was a head coach. He seems to be very up-front about his addiction and past troubles and I hear one of the reasons the Blazers originally hired him in 2005 was to work with Zach Randolph and his issues.

Could there be some intent in helping Michael Beasley blossom despite himself with this hire as well?

Sounds like a solid plan.

^Maybe it's for Love to stay slim. Bayno will start tearing up his knees if he doesn't stay away from the buffet.
